Not as good as Stevens, Breyer, Souter or Ginsburg, but replacing a swing vote is still a good thing. As long as Bush nominates a good conservative, and NOT Gonzales.

The only problem I have with Gonzales is that he would have to recuse himself from any questions or cases having to do with actions he took as counselor to George W. or as Attorney General. All of the cases pertaining to enemy combatant status, "torture", etc., he was in the room when the administration made these decisions and can not pass judgement on them as a supreme.

Just checked a source of my own. Well placed people in Washington have been hearing this before the news broke.

Nominate John Bolton.
Hey, why not? They're gonna filibuster anyway.

Will W announce his nominee today? Well, he's had years to think about it, I hope so.

AP Confirms:

Clone Thomas. In effect, we'll get that with any nominee sent over by a Republican president. No one in the history of court appointments had to go through the s*** that Thomas did (not even Bork, in my opinion) over complete BS charges from the likes of Anita Hill. I figure that Thomas never forgot it, and I look for the same treatment and result for any nominee Bush sends to the Senate.

Okay, make the case against Gonzales as not being a "true conservative".

on this nomination, I want the petal to the metal, the whole enchilada Gonzales or any other wishy-washy nominee will fracture the Republican party.
