Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein is on course for a re-election victory next November and not even Republican dream candidates such as Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice seem likely to stop her, a Field Poll released today shows.
Feinstein's potential re-election in 2006 for another six years is backed by 56 percent of California's voters, up from 53 percent in February. That's even higher than the 54 percent who like the job she's doing as the California's senior U.S. senator.
"She's probably regained her mantle as California's most popular politician, which she gave up briefly to Arnold Schwarzenegger,'' said Mark DiCamillo, director of the poll.
That popularity was highlighted in the poll's head-to-head election matchup with the governor. Feinstein had a 62 percent to 32 percent lead over Schwarzenegger in the hypothetical election, pulling 86 percent of the Democratic votes, 66 percent of the nonpartisan backing and a surprisingly strong 29 percent support from Republicans.
Feinstein is the choice of 56 percent of those surveyed to 38 percent for Rice, who is a former Stanford provost.
Neither Schwarzenegger nor Rice has given any indication that they are willing to challenge Feinstein, but the matchups show Feinstein's continuing popularity in the state, DiCamillo said.

Ever notice that no one ever bothers to ask you or me?
No Barf alert needed.
OK, California is NUTS, but we knew that already;)
WTFIIWCA?
Wasn't Bustamonte(sp?) supposed to win too?
I was not polled.
That means you have to convince ony 6.001% of the people to change their minds.........
You know you live in a liberal state when you elect one Senator who he makes DiFi seem less liberal.
I'm jumping up and down yelling, "ASK ME!!!" and nothing!!! No one wants to hear what I say...
The news around here is so biased. Example...we had a crash the other day - pilot had in flight emergency and put it down in a parking lot short of the airport. The pilot was 70ish.
The news crews decided he crashed because he was old. So, they started to interview others - one just happened to be a 78 year old who flies practically every day. The reporter said something like "the pilot was 70 and was probably too old to fly" and my friend said, "I'm 78 and fly all the time - what's your point!?"
SHE SHUT THE CAMERA DOWN AND WALKED AWAY... and said, NO STORY HERE!!!
Why bother to ask me, indeed!
LOL!
But you're absolutely right.
Yeah, but honey: you're a little scary.
Feinsten has a 56% approval rating and she's "popular".
Bush has a 56% approval rating and he's a failure.
The main reason however is that the Republicans never run a decent candidate against her or Boxer. The guy who ran against Boxer last november was pathetic and put up no campaign at all.
You don't like me because I'm blonde?
DISCRIMINATION!!!!
I'll SUE!
LOL!
If there was any doubt about this being a blue state.
-----
Any doubt? All you have to do is look at the history of the state, going back about 30 years. From the leadership position at the head of the state roster, under conservative, responsbile government --- to the bottom of the roster in education, taxation, financial solvency, demographically, and so on. The LIBERAL MIDAS TOUCH, like all other states they infest, has turned into a generic LIBERAL S***-HOLE!!!
oops conservatibe=conservative
We really must do coffee sometime.
