FORT BRAGG, N.C. -- President Bush last night warned Americans not to forget the lessons of September 11, declaring that Iraq is the central front in the war on terror and asserting that finishing the military mission there "is vital to the future security of our country." "The only way our enemies can succeed is if we forget the lessons of September 11, if we abandon the Iraqi people to men like [Abu Musab] Zarqawi and if we yield the future of the Middle East to men like [Osama] bin Laden. For the sake of our nation's security, this will not happen on my watch," he told an audience of 750 troops at Fort Bragg. The president -- delivering a prime-time, televised speech at the home of the 82nd Airborne and Special Operations Forces -- acknowledged the "horrifying" TV pictures of death and violence that Americans see each day. But in his 28-minute speech, he asked and answered a rhetorical question -- one that polls show is on the minds of many Americans. "Amid all the violence, I know Americans ask the question: Is it worth it? It is worth it, and it is vital to the security of our country," he said. Mr. Bush said he thinks that despite polls showing Americans are losing confidence in the war, "the American people do not falter under threat, and we will not allow our future to be determined by car bombers and assassins."

How odd............... to even find the need to listen to numbers from questionable polls whose results are from the responses of ill-informed and propagandized citizens. What a joke. For God's sake, how many polls was anyone concerned over during WWII?
****
The old Dem./liberal/socialist media is America's most ruthless, relentless, and destructive enemy.
Have you observed that on any given day, on any given poll, you can get a dffiernt result? I guess it depends on how they ask the question and where they ask it.
The President should have made the connection between the FIRST WTC bombing and Iraq. Repeated the fact that Iraq was on the list of Terrorist sponsoring nations for years. And gone on to say...." So was Syria, which is why we started bombing them 5 minutes ago."
"Have you observed that on any given day, on any given poll, you can get a dffiernt result? I guess it depends on how they ask the question and where they ask it."
Yep. And, unfortunately during the summer, most Americans aren't paying any attention at all to events. Of course, libs don't pay any attention any time, if it goes against their superior thinking process. Hehehe....
MMMMMMmmmmm! That sure felt good to read....
There is a lot to be learned from history and what a president actually says in a speech. The important question is why did he say what he said.

I would urge all of us to remember that the President is student of history. He works very hard to do things that work while avoiding the mistakes of the past.
Reagan used words to paint pictures too. But his pictures were rooted in hard fact. Not so with this administration. They've almost got the speak of "depends on what the meaning of the word is is" to an art.
.......... yes, and I heard yesterday and previously that over 60% of people called to be polled hang up, they do not want to take part (in the charade). Who do you think most of those "unwilling" are? They're people with a LIFE............... Republicans for the most part!
Polls are exceedingly meaningless and destructive, and should be confined to asking people what their favorite laundry detergent and breakfast cereal are!
".....as long as the hard connect is never made....."
Joes, the connection is there for me in a very personal way. During the last three years of the Clinton administration my son had seven deployments to Turkey (Northern no-fly zone) and Saudi Arabia (Southern no-fly zone). These flights were to keep Saddam under control. A very scary time...especially when Clinton launched his four day war,Desert Fox.
Shortly after 9/11, Osama Bin Laden said one of his "reasons" for the attack was to get the infidels (US) out of Saudi Arabia because it is home to the Muslim holy place of Mecca. Very soon thereafter we removed our base from Saudi and prepared to stop the nonsense once and for all in Iraq.
Great line, Tom!
We removed our bases from Saudi Arabia because the Saudi's requested that we remove them.
What was their reason for asking? I suspect that our presence there was an irritant to most Muslims....not just Osama, and yet the Saudis & Kuwaitis wanted & needed help in containing Saddam.
How could we protect the Southern no-fly zone without the Sultan base?
Do you really think we would have left without protecting the people in the no fly zones?
Actually, it's the idiots in SA who demanded we leave that created the need to take out Saddam. Millions of Iraqis would have been slaughtered if we left them unprotected, and millions of Kuwaitis would have followed after that. The Saudis would have come next.
"For God's sake, how many polls was anyone concerned over during WWII?"
Better yet, who was demanding a timetable for pull out?
The libs and Dems have been imagining that Bush said Iraq was directly responsible for 9/11. They've been dreaming it for so long, they think the echo in their head is real.
Case in point

How many of our planes were shot down?

By what logic do you interpret that scenario as one of strategic wisdom rather than moral timidity?
GWB's got chutzpah, you gotta give him that.
How can anyone not think that Iraq is not connected to 9/11. AlQaeda is all over our own country a majority of Muslims knew about 9/11 beforehand and yet people believe that Iraq had no AlQaeda or no connection? I kept the news off this morning. They are going to hash and rehash a dam 1/2 speech for the next week. I just can't stand it anymore.
