Among the closest associates of Khomeini, there were many Communists who had conveniently grown beards. Mustafa Ali Chamran had studied in California and Egypt before he founded a Red Shiite secret society. His pupils included later foreign minister Ibrahim Yazdi, oil minister Mohammed Gharazi, and a Lebanese fellow student in Berkeley University, Hussein Shaikh al-Islam, who led the occupation of the US Embassy in Tehran. This occupation, shortly before the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, focused Iranian radicalism into anti-Americanism. (Taheri, p. 78 and 139-140) Mohammed Beheshti, whose death at a bombing on June 28th, 1981, remained a mystery, had resided in East Germany. Khomeinis early companion and foreign minister, Sadegh Ghotbzadeh, was a link to Syria. Most left-wing radicals were repressed only after summer 1981, by which time many former Communists had successfully accommodated with the new regime. Both Ghotbzadeh and Chamran had received Palestinian terrorist training. As a student in the USA, Ghotbzadeh had been recruited by the GRU. (Livingston & Halevy, p. 153-154; Kuzichkin, p. 302)

Surely you have some better evidence of Reagan's useful dhimmitude!
Nonsense. Your rule vs. my history, blabla ad nauseum.
There is a difference between being a client of terrorism and being a terrorist, and being an actual manipulator of those.
The West might have been a client of the mujahedins, that does not make their master.
The Soviets are under valid suspicion of mastering terrorism under Andropov.
Muslims are obvious clients of Soviet power struggle provocations and manipulations.
Why would they abandon such a cheap way to power?
They did not, none would, and that is their excuse for continuing today.
This thread is an example of my power over your power, my expertise over yours. It's good stuff for revolution. And you are part and parcel and major instigator of it.
Conspiracy websites as evidence, HL? You are in the sheep dip end of the information superhighway, boyo.
Screw off and the Chechen jihadists who pimp you out.
Muslims are obvious clients of America's Cold War covert effort against the Soviets (example: Iran-Contra - Saudi Money - Sultan of Brunei money).
The Soviets backed clients who were secular Arabs/Muslims like the PLO which was made up of nationalists who were secular Muslims/Christains and socialist atheist Arabs.
Is that your tail between your legs I see?
Destro has said that if he was forced to be either muslim or commie, he'd choose commie because they would let him live if he signed a paper denying Christ. What a winner.
Try again: I don't support anyone's support of N.Korea. As an aside, the Russians have 1. threatened N.Korea with military action if it looks like a show down with the US is coming and 2. have armed the S.Korean with T-80Us against the N.Korea T-64s. ,P> Further, I have several times called for major support of the student revolutions in Iran. Syria is a more complicated issue, but the Russian sales are not the brightest move on their part, just like us giving the PLO or Saudies monies or equipment.
As for Venezuela, what ever, they're a piss ant and will remain that way. By the way, we make it all possible there by buying their oil.
So try again.
Oh and unlike you, I never made a comment excusing away the Jihadies as not representing the religion of peace. Excuses, excuses. Tell that to the 3K Americans who happened to have been in the World Trade Center.
Therefore, we must begin at once to unearth and throw into military tribunals, the remaining 5th columnists still active in our military. Firing squads need to be brought back into vogue.
By the way, as such a "lover" of Russians and such an "export" on Russian politics, which party exactly there do you support?
But why bother with the facts and dates when you've got a good hate on?
Almost as if it is an organized operation, with specific roles, responsibilities and propaganda elements. SOPs seem to exist. I was serious about my earlier comment. I believe our military to be infiltrated by a 5th column, who are either themselves active SVR assets, or, more likely, false flag recruits, who were snared on the basis of "Russian nationalism" riding on the back of "orthodoxy" (but is it bona fide Orthodoxy, or something else). Many are married to Russians, or spent time there as liasons or attaches. If there are disloyal elements in our military, be they beholden to the Kremlin, to Islamism, or to other anti Western forces, they need to be rooted out, and prosecuted to the hilt by the military justice system.
RE: why are we ignoring the Western sponsored jihad against the Soviets that gave birth to the al-Qaeda movement?
That is a gross over simplification. Not all al-qaeda / Taliban are traceable to the Mujahadeen of the early through mid 1980s, and not all Mujahadeen morphed into so called "Afghans" in the terrorist sense. Some of the AQ/Taliban core derived from factions who were pro Kremlin during the 1980s and some of them were more aligned with the Pakistan / ISI locus. Of course, the feigned "split" between Pakistan and Russia is also less than straightforward - witness the Bout gang's CURRENT business activities headquartered in Islamabad!
