June 25, 2005 -- CAMDEN, N.J. The father of a missing 6-year-old boy dropped to his knees and let out a blood-curdling scream after opening the trunk of a parked car last night to discover the body of his son and two young friends who had been missing since Wednesday.
The bodies of Jesstin "Manny" Pagan, 5; Daniel "Danny" Agosto, 6; and Anibal Cruz, 11 who were last seen playing in a yard in this hard-luck suburb of Philadelphia were found by Danny's father, David Agosto, shortly before 7 p.m. in the maroon Toyota Camry.
"Anibal's father told me that there was a plastic bag over his son's head," Anibal's babysitter, Nancy Santana, told The Post last night.
The death car belongs to Anibal's grandmother and had been parked in the driveway of the family's house throughout the three-day search for the boys in neighboring woodlands and the nearby Delaware River.
Hearing Agosto's anguished screams, family and friends frantically ran from a nearby porch where they had held a vigil hoping for a miracle. The grim discovery echoed across the community.
"This is a moment that the families and the city hoped and prayed we wouldn't have to face," said Camden County Prosecutor Vincent Sarubbi.
Last night, law enforcement officials declined to elaborate on their investigation, but said they were searching for Angel Martinez, 28, of Camden, as a "person of interest" in the case.

Sarubbi and Figueroa said the car had been searched on Thursday with a canine unit.

"We looked in the car on Thursday," an anguished neighbor, who did not want to be identified, told The Post.
"I can't believe we didn't look in the trunk."

That's what I was thinking. The cops might have searched the trunk, saw nothing because the kids hadn't been put in there yet, and now are keeping mum.
A bloodhound can track a human being's scent for miles through car exhaust.
If they had locked up a certain person rather than letting them go this might not have happened.
True. But these days to be a parent, you have to be paranoid, even if you think your kids are old enough, there always needs to be a grown-up watching them. I don't let my kids go around the neighborhood unless I am sure another parent is watching them.
You're right. Something's wrong. Hollywood now glorifies terrified children. And killing children. That wasn't in the movies in 25 years ago - but now - it's the rage.
Hollyweird did the same with women a few years ago, but the sicko's don't get off on that any more so they've dropped to a new "edgier" level. Children. The next step will be on screen raped children. That's where they're going.
How many liberal "jokes" now deal with sex with children? More every month. "Comedy" channel? We've got to fight back, and institute a mandatory death penalty for raping and/or killing a child.
Left up to liberal judges and the MSM, these predators will be dumped forever in our neighborhoods with lots of children, yours and mine, to prey on...
That's a good point.
Sounds right, sadly.
You're right. Triple murder.
"The autopsy show that the boys died of suffocation .. that there are no signs of foul play"
This is so weird. Of course they died of suffocation. The one kid had a plastic bag over his head. The mystery is, did they do it to themselves which I have a hard time believing three in a row did this as two watched the first one or did an adult suffocate all three with a plastic bag then place them in the trunk? Very very strange.
I pray that you find strength and peace, Mr. Agosto.
A relative reported that .. it could be misinformation
The police are saying there was no foul play .. no sign of trauma
Hard to imagine that somebody managed to put three dead bodies in a car trunk on the property of one of the families while a police investigation was going on all around them.
I think the kids were in there the whole time, and the cops just had a mental lapse and didn't check the trunk.
I suspect the cops have their own idea about what happened, and if it's drug related, they probably know which drug ring would murder three kids in order to punish a man who owed them $$$.
" I think the kids were in there the whole time, and the cops just had a mental lapse and didn't check the trunk."
I think they kids were in the trunk the whole time "before" any search started. Just my cynical mind at work I guess.
The car was surrounded by shrubs and in the back yard, so someone could have loaded the dead children in the trunk after dark. If the father got a phone call from the killer/drug dealer, I wonder if he'll tell the cops.
Excuse me, but as you can see with past highly publicized cases, incompetency is hardly limited solely to the state of NJ.
I hope nobody thinks this mentally challenged 11 year old did it. Not possible. No way.
If the dogs can follow their scent anywhere, why not up to the trunk? The only thing I can think of is that they didn't get in there of their own accord, but were carried and placed there after the dogs had already searched around the car. Their scent wouldn't be on the ground to follow.
I can't think of any other explanation.
The dogs would have found these kids if they'd been in the trunk right from the start.
