'I'm passionate about life -'CRUISE 'WAR OF WORLDS'
MSNBC ^ | 6/24/05 | Today show

Posted on 06/24/2005 7:49:38 AM PDT by Tumbleweed_Connection

...Lauer: Katie has mentioned that she is embracing, or at least exposing herself and opening herself up to, Scientology. At this stage in your life, could you be with someone who doesn't have an interest?

Cruise: You know, Scientology is something that you don't understand. It's like, you could be a Christian and be a Scientologist, okay. Scientology is something—

Lauer: So, it doesn't replace religion.

Cruise: It is a religion. Because it's dealing with the spirit. You as a spiritual being. It gives you tools you can use to apply to your life.

We asked Cruise to explain his recent comments regarding Brooke Shields. Cruise created a firestorm when he criticized Shields for revealing that she went into therapy and took antidepressants to deal with her postpartum depression. Cruise has said that, as a Scientologist, he doesn't believe in psychiatric medicine.

Cruise: I've never agreed with psychiatry, ever. Before I was a Scientologist I never agreed with psychiatry. And when I started studying the history of psychiatry, I understood more and more why I didn't believe in psychology.

And as far as the Brooke Shields thing, look, you got to understand, I really care about Brooke Shields. I think, here's a wonderful and talented woman. And I want to see her do well. And I know that psychiatry is a pseudo science.

Lauer: But Tom, if she said that this particular thing helped her feel better, whether it was the antidepressants or going to a counselor or psychiatrist, isn't that enough?

Cruise: Matt, you have to understand this. Here we are today, where I talk out against drugs and psychiatric abuses of electric shocking people, okay, against their will, of drugging children with them not knowing the effects of these drugs...

I wonder if Tom will then try to stop every fellow actor from snorting coke.

Well, at least Matt tried to stand up to Cruise, who makes no sense at all in the interview. He sounds like a very anxious person who is in desperate need of a psychiatrist. Anyone taken a look at Cruise's eyes lately ? There's definitely madness going on in there....

I wonder if people will be so tired of seeing his face on the news that they will skip the movie.

Ken Keasy voluntarily took shock treatments before writing his book, "One Flew Over The Cukoo's Nest".

"It is a religion. "

It is a science fiction story concocted as part of a book and rumor has it done on a bet to prove weak minded morons will follow anything if they simply make it a "secret" society and only "special" people get in.

It seems to be working quit well.

"...It's like, you could be a Christian and be a Scientologist, okay. ..."

This is just patently not true- although they may not want the general public to know that.

Correct. This is impossible since they teach that the Christian idea of God is an implant from aliens from another planet. I wish someone would ask Cruise a question like:

"Do you believe that Xenu 75 million years ago sent a boatload of aliens to earth to wipe them out using nuclear weapons and that their thetans (souls) were reprogrammed?"

Scientology is a money making scheme based on a truly terrible science fiction novel.

"Ken Kesey voluntarily took shock treatments before writing his book, "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest."

Did he say it helped ?

Dick Cavett had them too, and he said they definitely helped.

Nobody knows more about psychiatry then Tom Cruise. Give me a break!

Also, another disturbing sign of this cult called Scientology is that they claim to have "secret knowledge" of things non-members cannot know.

Cruise doesn't even have a college education

You aren't really suggesting that someone without a college education doesn't have a worthy opinion..are you?

"Katie has mentioned that she is embracing, or at least exposing herself and opening herself up..."

Name one actress in Hollywood that doesn't do this.

In an interview now online on Entertainment Weekly, Tom Cruise addresses some of his insane tendencies of late, including flopping around on Oprah, taking shots out of nowhere on Brooke Shields and his ramped up commitment to Scientology, the only thing that can save the lost souls here on Teegeeack, or what you humans call “Earth.” Before anyone is too hard on Tom, just remember that his body is inhabited by the wandering souls of fried space aliens. So that sucks. And laugh if you want, but once Xenu is freed from his electronic mountain trap and order is restored to the Galactic Confederation, (an alliance of 76 planets founded 95 million years ago) you’re gonna feel pretty silly. No offense all of you who don't believe in Xenu, but you're kinda makin an ass out of yourself.

Once again an actor I can't watch any more without puking! He's a pretty actor but once you see them act like idiots or just open their pie holes it's hard to watch them in anything. They all do that when they go on one of the talk shows-they are all just so wierd. His girlfriend was on Letterman and I couldn't watch-she's a real loon. Acts like she is about 14. Well I guess he does too doesn't he?!

From IMDB: “Tom Crusies beliefs in Scientology are based on misinformation, according to Entertainment Weekly - after editors checked facts from a recent interview … Just weeks after accusing Brooke Shields of being ‘misinformed’ after she championed anti-depressants for helping her deal with post-partum depression, Cruise made a couple of sweeping statements to Entertainment Weekly (who checked) Cruise's comments and found out he wasn't accurate. Supporting Scientology claims that psychiatry is ‘a Nazi science’, Cruise stated, ‘Carl Jung … was an editor for the Nazi papers during World War Two,’ … (EW) researchers discovered this is untrue … The movie star continued, ‘Look at the experimentation the Nazis did with electric shock and drugging. Look at the drug methadone. That was originally called Adolophine. It was named after Adolph Hitler.’ The magazine also questions Cruise on this point, explaining, ‘According to the Dictionary Of Drugs And Medications, this is an urban legend.’”

This sure does feel like another witch hunt from the liberal media, cause if they have some proof that this religion - founded by a science fiction writer and based on million year old aliens trapped in volcano prisons - is some sort of sham, well, I would like to see that, sir. I would like to see your “proof” very much.

"Cruise doesn't even have a college education. Not to say that everyone who has one is a genius, but come on, this guy has no idea what he is talking about."

Neither do most college graduates. Education (if that's what you can call what is delivered in most Universities today) has nothing to do with intelligence or, for that matter, wisdom.

I don't think he was looking for "help" any more than when he was abusing medical grade LSD.

He was looking for a new kind of kick. So was Timothy Leary but he didn't make the same mistake as Leary in thinking that this was the "answer" to life.

On Glen Becks show this morning, Glenn had complained that Lauer was too easy on TC, I dont see that from these transcripts. Cruise seemed to get pretty flustered, and called Lauer, and most of us, ignoramuses for not knowing The History of Psychology.

Those people can be creepy, the scientologists. Back in the day, I had an online run-in with one, who basically threatened me and my family. He actually went on to become somewhat of a famous a-hole on the internet. Robert Marcus was his name, and I got the best of him in the end...
