Possibly a ring of perps preying on tourists with date rape drugs for after hours parties

I read a post a while back, either on this site or one of the several others that I've been reading, that said that the way it works is the local guys will befriend the tourist girls and find out when they're leaving.

Then the last night the girls/women are there is the night they are given the drug, and assaulted, presumably because if they're leaving the next day, they're less likely to want to pursue charges.

That makes sense. Scout out the tourist group for a few days and then assault a particular woman/victim the last night, and it is less likely she'll want to stay around and prefer charges. Especially if she danced with the guy who'd been so friendly and nice the past couple of days. Then a pill in her drink and whisk her off to the car. Bingo. This would be quite amusing to macho idiots.

Aruba is looking less and less like an Island Paradise...maybe they are cooking the books on their crime figures, or as in your post, charges aren't pursued by tourists ready to get the heck out of there after a bad experience on their last night. I understand there is a significantly large prison on the island; why would you need such a fortress if there was such little crime...
