New York -- Speaking in a Manhattan ballroom just a few miles north of ground zero, Karl Rove said on Wednesday night that the Democratic party did not understand the consequences of the Sept. 11 attacks.
"Liberals saw the savagery of the 9/11 attacks and wanted to prepare indictments and offer therapy and understanding for our attackers," Rove said. "Conservatives saw the savagery of 9/11 and the attacks and prepared for war."
Rove, President Bush's chief political advisor, spoke at the state Conservative Party's annual dinner. He praised the conservative movement's success, calling it "the guiding philosophy for the White House, the Senate, the House."

Rove is GRANDSTANDING and it is as devisive as Howard Dean. For you to compare Rove's statement with any of the filth spewed by Howard Dean is ridiculous. He's comparing the lib approach to fighting the GWOT with the conservative approach. Howard Dean is lying, mocking skin color and religious beliefs, and otherwise just being an arse.

He's not grandstanding, he stating the facts. There were some brief moments of coming together but just hours after it happened you had two Dem House members asking if Bush had cut and run without knowing the facts.
If you look at it in hindsight with the way that Liberals, note the speech said Liberals and not Dems, have reacted since that day it is appeasement in the highest fashion.

Liberals Demand Rove Quit Telling The Truth About Them
Karl Rove gets it:
Karl Rove came to the heart of Manhattan last night to rhapsodize about the decline of liberalism in politics, saying Democrats responded weakly to Sept. 11 and had placed American troops in greater danger by criticizing their actions.
"Conservatives saw the savagery of 9/11 in the attacks and prepared for war; liberals saw the savagery of the 9/11 attacks and wanted to prepare indictments and offer therapy and understanding for our attackers,"
Of course this put the most whiny member of the Senate, Chucky Schumer into a tailspin:
"The one thing New York has had since Sept. 11 is unity," said Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y. "To inject politics into this and to defame a large number of people" is outrageous, he said. "It's not what New York and America is all about."
"Senator Unity" has a short memory. He forgot when he was leading Democrats trying to tear down Bush over the infamous Presidential Daily Briefing:
After Rice's testimony, Democratic Sen. Chuck Schumer of New York criticized the Bush administration for not acknowledging what he described as mistakes.
"Unfortunately, we did not hear from Dr. Rice three important words: 'We made mistakes.' Of course we made mistakes," Schumer said.
"This administration made mistakes, the previous administration made mistakes. But the inability of this administration and of the national security adviser to admit that mistakes were made makes us fear that we will make future mistakes."
So much for not making 9/11 political. What really has Senator Unity hacked off is that Rove told the truth about him. And sometimes, the truth hurts.

both left and right came together, as I recall, too, after 9/11You recall incorrectly.
Rove's statement is dead on.
To: M. Thatcher
I recall correctly the parades, the flag waving, the love, the candlelight vigils ON ALMOST EVERY STREET CORNER in the San Fernando Valley -- the tears, and the thirteen year old on a skateboard yelling "God Bless America!!!" at 2 AM after one parade down Ventura Blvd in Sherman Oaks to Studio City.
I RECALL CORRECTLY in my city, Los Angeles, of the fallen angels and liberals -- that left and right came together.
On the other hand, Karl Rove was the one cloistered in some "secret location", trying to figure out if the Secret Service had been infiltrated and whether or not they were right in thinking of shooting down Flight 93 before it hit the White House. He is the one not recalling correctly what happened right after 9/11.

You are describing regular Americans. Not liberals - in the academy, the media, or Hollywood. (Recall widespread liberal sneers at Fox personnel wearing flag pins. Recall Ward Churchill. Recall numerous liberal professors stunned at public criticism when they immediately blamed America for being attacked. One professor, since demoted, even declared that "anyone who can blow up the Pentagon has my vote." http://www.freedomforum.org/templates/document.asp?documentID=14986&printerfriendly=1)
Liberal reaction has been precisely as Rove described - before, during, and after 9/11.
To: Californiajones
Your recollection may be correct.....
You saw signs of both sides mourning for those lost and the consequences that most understood would come from that attack..
But Rove's comment is also correct...
The leftists, beginning with Carter and Clinton chose to ignore the meaning of the repeated attacks -- and refused to recognize and address them as acts of war..
The Leftists - to THIS DAY - still insist we should treat illegal battlefield captives and certifiable War Criminals as POWs protected by the Geneva Conventions and "have their day is civil court"..
To this day -- the left is STILL opposed to the war on grounds it wasn't sufficiently "justified" and lacks "world opinion" in our support...
Rove is totally correct in describing how different the mind set of how the Left wanted to REACT, versus how the RIGHT did in fact react (with the left complaining and protesting to this day!)
The leftists of American must never again be entrusted with the National Security of this nation -- if we expect this nation to survive as we know and love it..

To paraphrase Lincoln, God is the one who gives might to the morally right -- but Rove thinks too highly of his own political strategizing and thereby removes himself from the cause of the common man. It is this deadly attitude that has isolated Bush from a more widespread, Lincolnesque populism.
But I'll be passing this thread on to my bro, who served in Afghanistan and Iraq and was at Gitmo and will be teaching at West Point.

Isn't this whole "we must have done something to deserve 9/11" the same arguement as a raped woman thinking that "she did something to deserve it?"
Its a stupid argument on both cases. The terrorists were grown men. They made their own minds up and did their own thing. They are the ones responsible, not the US.
I wish the left could see that but then, they have been entrenched in the victim mentality for so long that they are blinded by it.

Hey, every truth loving Freeper knows that Rove is grandstanding right now on 9/11 because every truth loving Freeper knows that it doesn't matter what our military response was to 9/11 if our homeland response along the borders did not match our military's resolve.
And I know of only one Democrat with the savvy to nail Rove on this hypocrisy -- Hillary.

The sane among us know that Rove is correct.

Rove pulled our punch against the 9/11 enemy by bowing to whatever interests (Vincente Fox, illegal voting blocs, NAFTA era economic thinking) that keep our open borders OPEN. How many Freepers think that open borders are a good idea in War on Terror? This California gal weeps over Rove and GOP posturing.
