Vietnamese Leader in White House Visit, a First
NY Times ^ | 6/22/05 | David Sanger

Prime Minister Phan Van Khai arrived here Tuesday as the first leader of a united Vietnam to visit the United States, a trip marked by protesters outside the White House and a decidedly muted reception inside.

It was a strikingly different occasion from the day when Bill Clinton made the first presidential trip to Vietnam five years ago, placing a coda on one of the most emotionally scarring wars in American history and opening a new start with the country. Then, tens of thousands of Vietnamese lined the streets to greet him.

The crowds outside the White House were far smaller and were made up in good part of Vietnamese-Americans, who focused on complaints about Vietnam's human rights record...

The coolness was a reflection, several American officials said, of the administration's uncertainty over how to deal with a government that is looking for a great leap in its links to the United States but has proved unwilling to loosen political control at home.

Vietnam's development model appears to be China: economic openness married with strict crackdowns on dissenters who threaten the central authority. It is a country to which Mr. Bush has not devoted much energy, though he plans to visit next year for an Asian summit meeting, he said Tuesday.

In the meantime, the dialogue seemed to replay the words of 2000, during Mr. Clinton's four-day visit. "We believe that America finds in Vietnam a potential cooperation partner," Mr. Khai said in the Oval Office. "We have a population of 80 million people, which means a huge market for American businesses. And these people are also very hard working, creative and dynamic."

The United States is now Vietnam's largest trading partner, doing $6.1 billion in business last year, according to the State Department...

You know this is not a cover story?

There is an active investigation going on in regard to Kerry. Don't you think having a few live POWs would be useful?

I remember hearing something about a summit between Reagan and Gorbachev--in America. I was in grade school then, so I was quite frightened by the news. I really don't recall what happened between them, but the Soviet Union fell a few years later, and we didn't surrender.

Oh, yeah, and Communism is an economic system in which all people are either less equal (in a death camp), equal (the majority, severely undernourished, repressed, and hopeless), more equal (the dictator's cronies), or most equal (the dictator himself). Strictly speaking, communism is only an economic system wherein all persons pretend to work, and pretend to be paid equally, no matter how well or poorly they may work. In practice, however, communism would collapse quickly as starving masses demanded some form of upward mobility if a tyrannical godless dictatorship did not accompany it.

Would you normalize relations with Saddam Hussein for a few live POWs? The Commies killed 58,000 Americans and untold numbers of Vietnamese (and let's not forget what happened in Cambodia). These are baggers who are disguised as diplomats. The only difference is the pray for the day when Communism finally triumphs over the West (and all the bloodshed, misery and concentration camps that implies).

Like I said before, you are speaking on assumptions. You have no idea what is being discussed.

Read Anatoly Golitsyn (New Lies for Old and Perestroika Deception). You might change your mind about our supposed victory over Communism. In fact, if Reagan were President when the Soviet Union "collapsed", I don't think he would have fallen for it IMHO.

The left always wants to return to Nam yet never to it's final outcome. Their dislike for war was ultimately responsible for all of those unnecessary deaths after the pullout.

True enough. But never forget that genocidal Communist are the Left in its purest form. That's who we invited into our White House.

Oh, communism is alive and well--and spreading. It's in Iran, Sudan, Syria, Libya, Belarus, Turkmenistan, Vietnam, Laos, North Korea, Burma (Myanmar), Cuba, Zimbabwe, and Venezuela. But it's no longer oppressing the Latvian people. Russia itself has been recovering but soon may relapse. And Eastern European countries like Poland now rule themselves rather than taking orders from deadly dictators in Moscow.

"Russia" could end Polish self-rule in a New York second. Moreover, their leadership is riddled with high-level Commie holdovers from the Soviet-era (who almost certainly coordinate their actions with the rapidly emerging Eurasian Alliance). You might want to google "Eurasian Alliance".

Hope I'm not offending you. I know you're a good person. As you can see, I get very worked up over this issue (and for good reason).

Like I said, I have checked their designations on the majority of the countries listed, and they all hold up. They are solid when it comes to Communism, but I do not share their religious convictions in the slightest degree. If someone else performs the same service, I will post their stuff instead.

I remember one night, sitting in a torrential downpour, wet, cold, hungry, at some hellhole jungle road crossing, hoping Charlie was just as miserable as we were, that one day some American would be sitting in a warm office with another Charlie, drinking good Scotch, yucking up the old days and saying,"let bygones be bygones". I had seen as much in old WWII movies. It's happened.

The Noachide campaign is solid? The same group that sells fliers to abolish Christmas is a solid source?

Surely YOU jest.

And now that I see what sources you feel are solid, please remove me from your ping list. Thank you.
