According to "local Mississippi news" last night, they were hopelessly deadlocked on the murder charge only.

Not originally. The KuKluxKlan was originally a social club. But after a few years of drink and being over run by carpet baggers and "free slaves" that the North didn't want so they stayed in the south, major economic depression.... anger and brew. It was much easier to blame the weak than rise up against the North and be crushed.

My understanding is there there were two separate Ku Klux Klans. The original one was formed immediately after the Civil War, and was led by the Confederate hero Nathan Bedford Forrest. This organization was eventually disbanded on Forrest's orders. Then after some time, a second organization was formed using the same name.

I think you were reading my posts and yes...equal justice for ALL, not the politically correct few.

I do think some on here see or hear the words Klu Klux Klan and automatically assume it's true and the person MUST be guilty. That is where I have a difference of opinion. If the evidence is solid--convict him. If not--let him go.

I also don't buy into the "well, things were wrong back then so it's okay to be wrong now" malarky. Do it right or don't do it at all. If you are down in this part of the country you here a lot more of what this case was about. At best the case was flimsy. This jury made a comprised decision.

The first trial deadlocked 11-1 on Killen. 11 guilty, 1 that refused to vote to convict not because of doubt, but because he refused to send a Preacher to jail. Sounds to me like justice was ill served

This trial, as I understand it they deadlocked on the more serious charge of murder, thus settled on manslaughter. In relatively short order. I don't see any evidence that they "compromised" at all, other than on the greater charge.

Based on the evidence of paid witnesses this trial verdict is a compromised verdict. Not a single witness placed him at the crime. It's a compromise. Ironically concluded on the anniversary of the crime. Hmm

Glad he was found guilty. I think he deserved murder in the 1st myself, but, better justice late than justice never.

Hopelessly deadlocked on the murder charge. Obviously those voting to acquit on murder were okay with the manslaughter charge and in the end, the jury went with manslaughter



Indications are there never was a question of guilt
or innocence the question was Murder or Manslaughter.

Not a single witness placed Charles Manson at the Tate/Polanski house. Given that Manson ordered the murders, whether or not he was there was utterly irrelevant. Same with Killen.
