There is an online petition up at the above site requesting Dick Durbin's resignation. If you're an interested Illinois resident please give it a look.
So only Illinois residents can sign it? Drat!
What were the folks in Illinois thinking? They have one senator whose name looks like Osama while the other one talks like him.
I signed and I am not a resident. I guess that invalidates it huh? Also, there are only 12 signatures on it as now. Why can't the whole country call for his resignation, he insulted everyone and his remarks effect the nation not just Illinois.
no you do not have to be an IL resident to sign it. Please do I did
"no you do not have to be an IL resident to sign it. Please do I did"
Done.
It doesn't *prevent* you from signing but the petition claims the signatories eligible are residents of Illinois so I did not proceed. I believe the intent was to show how Illinois voters feel about Senator Dick, not the rest of the country.

Then why does the petition form clearly have a pop up window that asked to choose a given state?
Sorry but I do not see where it says that, maybe this will be better.

It didn't for me and I'm not from Illinois.
Eligible signatories: Residents of Illinois
Name: (required)
Email Address: (required)
Comments: (optional)
City: (optional)
State: (optional)
Zip Code: (optional)
Most of these petitions are exercises in impotence anyway. Sign it or don't, I don't care.
Interesting anti-Bush Google ads on the page too, btw.
"It didn't for me and I'm not from Illinois."
OK. When I signed it the form looked different. Someone has changed it in the last hour or so. Originally one choose via. a "arrow" select box, you know, when you click on it, it brings up a sub menu, in this case a list of all our states.
So now I understand why some of you folks have responded as you have. But thanks for at least trying.
Darn. I was all set to sign it. Can't we just have a general one from ALL the people who think durbin should resign? What he did was traiterous and we should ALL be able to sign a similar petition.
We don\'t call em FIBS for nothing!!!

Hi all, Happy Father's Day.
My friend Nedd at stoptheaclu.org wanted this passed on to the base, that means you Freepers. Via E-mail:
Alicia, ask anyone in your base if they would like to set up a web site titled www.oustdurbin.org. If I had the time, I would do it since that scumbag is in my state. Unfortunately, I don't but I'll gladly help with information anyone who will take the time to do so. This guy is a disgrace to the Land of Lincoln.
Nedd
"Mr. Durbin, through his original remarks, and his subsequent refusals to modify his statements, or apologize to our troops, has committed a blatant act of treason in a time of war, is guilty of sedition, and has openly taken sides with the enemy combatants, with whom we are now at war, thereby endangering our troops, and emboldening the enemy that seeks to destroy our nation."
As much as I think Durbin is a total as*wipe he can say whatever he wants and it is not treasonous. Why wasn't Hanoi Jane tried for treason? It's something too many FReepers forget about; the Constitution. It says that only Congress can declare war and no war has been declared by Congress since WWII.
Don't forget, Durbin is an excellent spokesman for the Democratic party.
People,
I did not write the petition, I'm only bringing it to your attention. I think the idea was that since Durbin represents Illinois, it made sense to limit the petition to his constituents. But certainly sign if you want, or send the idiot an e-mail to his office. Thanks.
