Seven people have been threatened or attacked by deer on Southern Illinois University's main campus over the past two weeks, prompting the school to post warnings about the animal aggressiveness
A deer also attacked a person Monday, and two of three people injured by a doe June 7 required hospital care, Sigler said.
Campus officials have not seriously considered suggestions of killing the offending deer,
"I don't want to be a statistic, I guess," said [Bill] House, a 20-year-old zoology student from Park Ridge.
Molly Hacker, a 25-year-old plant biology student, said she would continue using the forest paths but be more vigilant, though "I don't feel too threatened." The Illinois Department of Natural Resources has been notified about the attacks, Nielsen said.

I have never read such malarkey in my life. Deer attacking people! Next it will be vicious jackrabbits.
I have been a hunter and outdoorsman all my adult life. The people who claim to have been attacked by deer may well benefit from drug counseling and/or psychiatric testing.

I had the occasion to travel from Detroit MI to the Houghton Lake area two weeks ago, and noted there were at least 7 deer carcasses along side the road. On the return back to Detroit, using a different route, at least that many more were spotted. Assuming the Michigan DOT picks up the carcasses frequently (none were in a really bad state of decay, the deer population in Michigan must really be huge. It's no wonder they are confronting humans at an increasing rate.

Perhaps a bear or pack of wolves could put the affending deer in their place.

Oh my, the Mad Deer attack again? It is time for us all the ponder what we did to offend them. We have to consider Bush's role in all this too!

Deer meat is quite tasty. Most likely it's loads better than the meat that they serve in the dining halls!

Mess with any male buck, and you could be in for a world of hurt. Esp. during mating season.

Mess with any male buck, and you could be in for a world of hurt I assure you that I will avoid upsetting a male buck or a female one for that matter -- if there was such a thing.

The university is invading their habitat, not the other way around. Bull$hit!
either Creationism is true and man has dominion over all creation or
Evolution is true and we have every right to over-run any other species.
If creation is true I have every right to tell the deer where to live and if evoution is true, let the wildlife come drive me out - me and my guns are waiting.

I was going by what the article said, wiseguy. Do you find it necessary to insult someone to make a point? Jeez.

Deer have a rep for being harmless and reclusive. A buck in rut can be real dangerous. I've read of several fatalities over the years caused by hormoned up bucks. Last November, my sis-in-law stopped on the side of the road to make a call when all of the sudden a buck rams into here driver's side door. Made a hell of dent. She had to drive off as he was making another charge.
I even read once where a small boy had his lungs fatally punctured by a pi$$ed of doe. The author of the story said the kids were feeding some deer at Yellowstone decades ago. He said it hoofed the kid so fast that it was almost imperceptible.

I was almost attacked by a large buck (during rutting season) who was "protecting" three does. I was sitting motionless (at night) near a deer-path that they decided to use. One of the does came to within about 25 feet when I decided to light a cigarette to warn them off. The does moved-off right to left, but the buck must've been an anti-smoking Nazi. I figured him to be about 400 pounds.
It can happen folks. If you don't believe me, then rent a room on a 360 acre corn farm (with about 40 acres of woods) and try it yourself.

Elk are overpopulating Rocky Mountain National Park and Estes Park so the do-gooders want to give the elk birth control and totally ban hunting. The Elk were brought into Colorado in the 30's by hunters and reintroduced at no cost tax payers. Anti-hunters now "own" the Elk and often break the law to stop hunters.
To: Chiapet
Try to go Elk hunting near Estes Park Colorado.
