NewsMax got serious notice Friday in the New York Times for its coverage and promotion of the new, controversial biography of Hillary Clinton.
But the Times has bought into the spin liberals have tried to put on "The Truth About Hillary: What She Knew, When She Knew It, and How Far She'll Go to Become President" by Edward Klein.
The newspaper quotes a journalist who says the book "has the feel of a ginned-up right-wing effort to smear anybody who is seen by the right as politically threatening."
What the Times doesn't mention is that Klein is anything but a right-wing hatchet man. In fact, he's the former editor in chief of The New York Times Magazine, the former foreign editor of Newsweek and has written several best sellers, including "The Kennedy Curse" and "Farewell, Jackie."
Klein, in fact, has never worn a right-wing label until he penned this book on Hillary.
The Times reports that NewsMax has taken a leading role in promoting the Hillary book.
But Hillary Clinton - and those touting her as a likely Democratic candidate for president in 2008 - do have cause for concern over Klein's book.
The Times also reported: "The book also has a patron in NewsMax.com, a Web site operated by a company that Mr. [Richard] Scaife has a stake in. The site has been offering the book free with subscriptions or renewals to NewsMax magazine.
"'Hillary has good reason to be worried about this book,' the Web site says. 'Publishing insiders say the book and its revelations could destroy her bid to run for the presidency in 2008.'
"'Promoting the book has less to do with ideology and more to do with generating business,' said Christopher Ruddy, president and chief executive of NewsMax Media Inc. Mr. Ruddy said Mr. Scaife was not involved in its day-to-day decisions.
"He noted that the company made money from book sales generated on the site and predicted that the book would be popular not just among Mrs. Clinton's opponents, but also readers of sensational publications who are fascinated by her celebrity.
"'The people who buy tabloids with Hillary on the cover are buying it because they are intrigued by her, not necessarily because of the politics,' Mr. Ruddy said."
But the Times coverage failed to note some important points:
NewsMax covers and sells many books that appeal to a conservative or GOP-leaning audience. Just recently we heavily featured author Laurence Leamer's "Fantastic: The Life of Arnold Schwarzenegger."
Leamer's book offers a far more salacious review of Schwarzenegger's life - including his sexual history - than Klein's book of Hillary does.
The book has gotten wide praise from major media for its fairness and balance toward Schwarzenegger.
Even the liberal media find "The Truth About Hillary" intriguing. Vanity Fair excerpted "The Truth About Hillary" in its July edition - and its cover headline for the excerpt reads: "The Book Hillary Clinton Doesn't Want You To Read."
Hillary herself has helped spark interest in the book. Book sales soared according to online sales rankings only after Hillary's spokesman came out and attacked the book - before it was published or any one had read the contents of the book.
Yet, Mrs. Clinton's aide said the book was "full of blatant and vicious fabrications." Smartly, Hillary and her husband in the past have rarely commented on books about them - including ones far more critical and personal.
Why this one?
We do not know the answer to that - but you may enjoy reading the book and deciding for yourself.
The book will be officially released Tuesday, June 21. NewsMax already has copies -
I'm very suspicious about this book. Is it really intended to "expose" Hillary for what she is?
Or did Klein intentionally include false information and innuendo (Bill's "rape" of Hillary)? So that, when Hillary is asked about true unethical conduct (cattle trading, Juanita Broderick, etc) in 2008, she can assert that the allegations have been "disproven" as "slanderous lies."
My fear is that Hillary's poll numbers will actually go up because of the book, as always seems to happen when the dirt about her is revealed.
You should copyright that and make T shirts in 2008.
Hillary probably authorized the release of this book so she could again play the victim of the vast right winged conspiracy(even if the conspiracy is a made up one of her doing for sympathy)
Well I don`t think I`ll copyright it, but I sure as hell will paste it all over NYC (where I live) if this bonafide psychotic even thinks of running for a second term for Senator much less for President. I spent months when she was running for her first term as Senator posting a similar poster all over NYC and most of them got immediately ripped down, most likely by Hillary cultists.
Exactly so. This book will immunize her against any allegations. Whether it was designed that way, I don't know. But it is a big help to her campaign.
"The Times also reported: "The book also has a patron in NewsMax.com, a Web site operated by a company that Mr. [Richard] Scaife has a stake in. The site has been offering the book free with subscriptions or renewals to NewsMax magazine."
And the loaded, biased book reviews of the NYTimes are done by a company that Pinch (I hope the VC shoot American soldiers) Sulzberger has a stake in. What is their point?
"'Hillary has good reason to be worried about this book,' the Web site says. 'Publishing insiders say the book and its revelations could destroy her bid to run for the presidency in 2008.'"
Which will make it good reading for more than 1/2 the country.
"Yet, Mrs. Clinton's aide said the book was "full of blatant and vicious fabrications." Smartly, Hillary and her husband in the past have rarely commented on books about them - including ones far more critical and personal."
Whoa! Starting the Kerry/Swiftboat defense/attack before the book has even had a chance to be ignored by the MSM? As Shakespeare said, "Methinks she dost protest too much."
When the namecalling, denials and insinuations start this early, you know they have hit her with the best weapon of all: the truth!
They'll never learn. :(
I think there is cumulative effect. I don't think people, even liberals, want a President who is a perpectual "victim." Especially now.
This is why NewsMax will never be taken seriously. They are so converned about the latest dirt on Hillary that they can't see they are being played for suckers.
True....(They have a large set of "Blinders-horseracing" on...Can't the see the forest, for the trees...etc.), but they are a business and they must sell products to survive. :^/
HILLARYIOUS!!!
