Thanks Davis. Yep I saw that. Hoping it's not very big.

Good to know someone else is up keeping an eye on things.

You're awfully flippant with the lives of other people's children.

Kind of like you are with me.

"I found olive oil and glass all over the kitchen.

You apparently didn't miss too much, then. I had to bath and shave with the water from the swimming pool including buckets of water to flush waste down the toilet with. 5 minutes after the event I realized I had to shut off all the gas mains to the buildings around here because they were all sheared off. We prevented a firestorm- just myself, a retired Army guy, a crescent wrench and a flashlight. Pants, shoes were nearby for both of us and we did it!

So you've never been in a tornado or an earthquake, but you feel moved to blame any damage done by these natural disasters on the people who suffer by them.

Your callous remarks about kids lead me to think you haven't experienced parenthood either.

Where's Pt Reyes.. due south of say, Crecent city; just north of Marin County which is across the bay from San Francisco.

Thank you. I've lived on the Monterey Peninsula---I think that was near Point Lobos.

I seem to remember that area was once at the bottom of a bay.. Maybe if all us Californians find some CFC laden sprayers and use it all at the same time we can raise the temp enough to get that ocean over to you. As a side benefit the coastal liberals in our state would have to go find some other place to live.

After the shaking stopped, and the TV and other airborne objects landed, I gingerly put my feet on the floor and tried to estimate the trajectory of my flashlight missile.

The flashlight had been safely placed in my night stand which had opened, and contents ejected flying off to parts unknown.

We had no electricity but wow did we have audio - that of my neighbor screaming at the top of his lungs "GAS LEAK, we're going to BLOW, everybody out of the building!"

Had I not been made aware several times in the past of his penchant for the grape, I might have been more alarmed.

Still his screaming brought me back to reality and out of my outright terror. Still I was sure that our world was upside down. As it was inside, a ceiling to floor supposedly earthquake secure bookshelf had broken and twisted horribly tossing a large library all over my living room.

Wall to wall books on the floor was one of many obstacles to overcome to get to the front door. I peeked outside and then quickly shut it after confirming that all outdoors appeared to be upright.

http://www.aeic.alaska.edu/Seis/recenteqs/global.html is the map that he posted. There are two grid sets - one is the physical north pole, the other is the magnetic north pole. Cool display - of course it has to come from Alaska.

Thanks for the ping bd476.

Just up from my nap to do a quick 2am check on the kid and hopefully back to get some much needed rest.

But WOW. Things are just a rockin' and a rollin'.

With all the activity in the LA Area makes one wonder if is a precurssor to a bigger event.

Remember the one of the old Earthquake movies about that area and the (darn can't think of the right termenology) prehistoric oil beds in LA start boiling? The movie was a guy who was divorced (of coarse) and had a daughter who was evacuated to the hospital to wait for her dad. It had a female geoligist who was bound and detemined to get her point across that something catastrophic was going to his and in the hollywood fashion it did.

Gonna go do my check on the kid and come back to read up on this post.
