Schiavo Autopsy Finds No Sign of Trauma

LARGO, Fla. -- An autopsy on Terri Schiavo backed her husband's contention that she was in a persistent vegetative state, finding that she had massive and irreversible brain damage and was blind, the medical examiner's office said Wednesday. It also found no evidence that she was strangled or otherwise abused.

But what caused her collapse 15 years remained a mystery. The autopsy and post-mortem investigation found no proof that she had an eating disorder, as was suspected at the time, Pinellas-Pasco Medical Examiner Jon Thogmartin said.

Autopsy results on the 41-year-old brain-damaged woman were made public Wednesday, more than two months after Schiavo's death March 31 ended an internationally watched right-to-die battle between her husband and parents that engulfed the courts, Congress and the White House and divided the country.

Thogmartin also said she did not appear to have suffered a heart attack and there was no evidence that she was given harmful drugs or other substances prior to her death.

She died from dehydration, Thogmartin said.

He said she would not have been able to eat or drink if she had been given food by mouth as her parents' requested.

"Removal of her feeding tube would have resulted in her death whether she was fed or hydrated by mouth or not," Thogmartin told reporters.

He also said she was blind, because the "vision centers of her brain were dead."

Their agenda dictates that Government, not you, your doctor or your family, determines your medical outcome.

Yep. The last thing I want is weasels like Ted Kennedy or Tom DeLay having any say over my life, property or body.

Those politician losers need to make sure we have a military, start defending the damn borders, put the violent crooks in prison - then go get drunk and shut the hell up.

I would want the tube pulled and my wife knew that before we signed the legal documents

And the above situation has nothing to do with the Schavio case. There were no legal documents and big disagreement about wether they even Had a Loving Marriage.

Baseless? Dream on. Her collapse to near death is STILL unexplained.

She was diagnosed as PVS for six months. SHE WASN'T. She had dementia, and could barely speak - The doctors said to pull her feeding tube, that she'd never come out of it. She battled back to 140 lbs from 84 and held her first grandchild in her lap, even though she couldn't speak.

It's a bitter, family squabble that has so little to do with Terri.

Very well said. It's good to hear the voice of reason once in a while. And I agree with you on Sean Hannity and for that matter Bill O'Reilly too. These guys are on the radio and especially television because they have egos a mile wide. I wonder if they even believe some of the stuff they tout. I think they can be sincere, but they're there to make money for themselves, the network, and the sponsors. So I take what they say as their opinions and nothing more.

Indeed.

I came to that conclusion back in the early part of this year when I began reading the court transcripts and all the other documents I could find.

Nor will I forget how tired my eyes were every night from all the reading.

My bookmarks were full to the hilt! Finally, deleted all of them in a frenzy (LOL) while cleaning out my files.

This should be engraved wherever injustice is practiced:

She died from dehydration

And I will tell you who else I cannot stand...folks like Jesse Jackson, and Randall Terry, ,and Larry Klayman, who always show up, and show their faces, when they think they can get some free publicity, and more and more money for their respective groups....I hate to say it, but they remind me of being nothing but 'pimps',(I hate to call people names, but pimp seems to be the only word to fit)....they show up, when someone else is in pain, and has the national news spotlight...they show up, show their faces( I am still thinking about Larry Klayman shoving his face from the crowd, trying to get on camera), and try to get their organization name on TV, thereby hoping for more and more donations...they are like leeches, not caring at all about the people they claim to care about, but caring only for more and more money for their supposed causes...they make me sick...

You are so right about this being a bitter family squabble...and the fact is, if all the family members had been in agreement about Terris care, this would have never come to the national news spotlight...the only reason we knew about it, was because there was such a bitter family fight....

These life and death decisions are made every single day, and when the families agree on the decisions, no one else ever knows about it...No Tom Delays, no Jesse Jacksons, no Sean Hannitys, no Larry Klaymans, no Randall Terrys...

Whether one likes it or not, the practice of pulling feeding tubes happens all the time, its happening right now, and its going to continue on happening in the future...but its a family decision, and when the family disagrees and makes enough noise about it, it makes the TV news, and we all know about it...

Yes, BASELESS. 'Unexplained' does NOT mean that you can fictionalize any scenario out of whole cloth. If you are going to fling around accusations, then you'd better be prepared to back them up with substantial evidence.

folks like Jesse Jackson, and Randall Terry, Larry Klayman

I couldn't agree more! And the fact that some people on FR were praising these phonies was disgusting.

On a lighter note; there was a questionnaire that asked: what was the one thing you would demand be put in your living will. I said, don't let Jesse Jackson within 100 miles of me!

Banned for admitting i was wrong or for not agreeing with the conventional thinking here?

I listened to the M.E. and now think that she was indeed hopelessly brain dead. That's not such a ridiculous position for me to take given the evidence. I can't imagine getting banned for taking a reasonable position even if it's not the common thinking here.

Now I'm still suspicious about the husband. I think he may have indeed had something to do with her "accident", but there is no way to know for sure. His ghoulish obsession to have her feeding tube removed is the main thing that makes me suspicious.

All of this is beside the point. What they're really saying is that we have the right to starve to death anyone thats disabled.

Truly sick.
