Schiavo Autopsy Finds No Sign of Trauma

LARGO, Fla. -- An autopsy on Terri Schiavo backed her husband's contention that she was in a persistent vegetative state, finding that she had massive and irreversible brain damage and was blind, the medical examiner's office said Wednesday. It also found no evidence that she was strangled or otherwise abused.

But what caused her collapse 15 years remained a mystery. The autopsy and post-mortem investigation found no proof that she had an eating disorder, as was suspected at the time, Pinellas-Pasco Medical Examiner Jon Thogmartin said.

Autopsy results on the 41-year-old brain-damaged woman were made public Wednesday, more than two months after Schiavo's death March 31 ended an internationally watched right-to-die battle between her husband and parents that engulfed the courts, Congress and the White House and divided the country.

Thogmartin also said she did not appear to have suffered a heart attack and there was no evidence that she was given harmful drugs or other substances prior to her death.

She died from dehydration, Thogmartin said.

He said she would not have been able to eat or drink if she had been given food by mouth as her parents' requested.

"Removal of her feeding tube would have resulted in her death whether she was fed or hydrated by mouth or not," Thogmartin told reporters.

He also said she was blind, because the "vision centers of her brain were dead."

No, you and your ilk would have only trusted the autopsy would have been if the findings were in keeping with your own bias. You'd be calling this M.E. the only honest man in the county if only the autopsy came back that TS could see, hear, and feel.

Spare me the moralizing. You're just indulging yourself in another conspiracy theory, namely that the courts and legislature of Florida, as well as the U.S. courts, planned to murder the woman.

That pretty well sums up what happened. If you don't see it then more the pity for our country.

Please read the ME's report - she did not have a heart attack.

I've already retracted the "TERM." But she did collapse, or is that wrong too?

No, that is not wrong. The manner is which she died was wrong.

To sum this up, the God of the universe made a mistake with Teri and didn't kill her off like he should have when she suffered the brain damage. He left it up to Michael Schiavo and Judge Greer to finish her off?

How can you purposely let a life die of thirst? How sick.

Let's put aside moral arguments for a sec. You do realize that without her higher brain centers, she wouldn't experience thirst? Are you aware that conscious people who are on feeding tubes for an extended time don't experience hunger or thirst per se?

Maybe its the other way around.

There had to be some independent review of the autopsy by someone not in this totally corrupt Pinellas County system. I have seldom seen such overt corruption in one area as I've seen coming out of Pinellas County, Florida. Even if the findings are true, they are not credible because the system that produced them is not credible. Nothing has been proven by this autopsy. Personally, I'm waiting for the Fuhrman book - I am eager to see his analysis and conclusions.

That might be true if the prior ME, Dr. Joan Wood, had not been forced out of her job for Pinellas County. This sets a precedent. Pinellas County is extremely corrupt and incestuous, that's just the way it is. Even if this ME's findings are true, they would be under suspicion as they allowed no one to perform an independent review and the County has a history of corruption, especially in this particular area.

The autopsy just shows that no amount of therapy would have helped her, ever.

Which is yet another sign that people should make sure they have their wills, etc., in order.

The best thing to come out of this whole media circus, is to push people towards making sure their affairs are in order, so there is no question of what they wanted if something happens.

So she was in no pain whatsoever from slowly dehydrating to death?

Please read the ME's report - she did not have a heart attack.

So, you believe what's in the ME report, right?

Absolutely. And ask any lawyer and they'll tell you that 99.9% of their clients state they would not want to live in that condition. So why is it so far-fetched to believe Terri wouldn't feel the same way?

There many here on the Free Republic site that no matter what the truth of the matter will continue to believe in all manner of kook conspiracy theories with little or no evidence.

As you say the "hot spots" may indicate healed fractures and those kind of fractures can be cause by strangulation.

And 'strangulation' always involves the neck. The supposedly-Schiavo bone scan report did not note any abnormal findings anywhere near her neck. It mentioned the thoracic & lumbar areas, ribs, sacroiliac joints, femur, knees & ankles. The Strangulation Theory is Pure BS.

"The brain weighed 615 grams, roughly half of the expected weight of a human brain,"

I like this one, Terrys brain was only half that of a human brain. So she wasn't human now, or at least her brain wasn't.

This is a perfect example of how out of touch your side is. There is nothing wrong with that statement, but you want to make something bad out of it that isn't there. Like you want to make Michael a villian, and the judges evil...
