Why not $40 a pack tax? Why not $50.

What is the average cost of private high school tuition in your state vs. the dollars spent per student at the public high school. In my state the public student spending is significantly higher than the cost of tuition at a private school. I admit that both are high, but in most cases the value is very different. The dollar spent should bring as much value as possible.
What specific reasons did those sections of the DOT have for the need for bringing them back under public control? How long was it privatized and how many different private companies were involved?

I am so sorry. No apology necessary.
Here is the link anyway. They provide a toll free number to call. There are good reasons to no longer accept credit cards over the net.

I wish all smokers would do this. The various states would be howling if they did. They have in England where factory fags go for almost $10/pack.

OK, I will play your game, I will take the $50 a pack and raise you $10. Maybe we can pay for the whole state budget with one pack.
Or maybe the druggies will switch from cocaine to cigarettes. Stupid liberals, works just like gun control.

OK - thanks, now I understand what you were referencing.
When I was thinking of privatization I was thinking you meant private not taxpayer funded. While I see places where that will work, and has worked well, I have also seen where it has been an unmitigated disaster.
It's an issue I'm rather torn on, but not one I get all bent out of shape with either.

Back when I smoked, I used a kit named Larados. A machine, tobacco and little cigaratte jackets,
Worked just fine for a poor little girl.

HaHaHaHa........Ya gotta love these money hungry politicians and thank God they currently have a whipping boy. Once the state smokers go internet then eventually blackmarket, the politicians have nowhere else to recover the loss of tobacco revenues and rather than cut state spending, they will ultimately turn on the same people who gleefully spit on the tobacco industry...........
What goes around comes around.......ROFLMAO!
Let that be a lesson to you nico-nazis reading this thread......
To: SheLion
That's nice indeed.
When everything else fails, suck it to the smokers.

Thanks so very much for the links, SheLion.
That Smokers United link, however, had to many popups. I've placed a link on my Desktop to come back later to. I couldn't find a link to register.
Again, thanks. Much appreciated as I was looking for one such a site.

Don't they tax the loose tobacco the same as the factory cigs?
I just bought my annual bag of pipe tobacco, and didn't pay much attention how much of it was taxed.
Personally, I'm too lazy to roll my own "fags"; the pipe is easier in my opinion.

..raise the tax to $70. A tax has been deemed legal, and what is the difference if you tax it $10 or $70. Smokers are a minority, and cant do anything about it - and why hot have more revenue coming in to the state coffers.

Don't they tax the loose tobacco the same as the factory cigs? I dont know about Maine, but most states do not, so if you roll your own, total cost is less than a $1 a pack. However, most people dont do that - they would rather give their money to the state.

When everything else fails, suck it to the smokers. There is a saying:
When they are too spineless to cut spending, stick it to the smokers and claim it's for their own good.
