Does anyone know if there is a way to contact JRB? I would so much like to let her know how much I admire her.

Chicken! :0)

Yes I am! LOL. I called Hatch's office and told them I thought his floor speech was great and to tell Howard Dean that my parents are going to be upset to find out I'm not Jewish anymore.

Of course, because according to Democrats free speech is OK only, as long as you burn flags, march in gay parades, promote obscenity, say that Christianity is the source of all evil in the world, etc...

Sheesh. Reid is done.

I had to go out right after Hatch called Dean a raving lunatic but taped the rest of his speech for later.

Isn't the Black Caucus supposed to enter the Senate chambers to protest? If so, it should be interesting.

All of a sudden we are supposed to worry about the "rights of the minority" ie LOSERS of elections. Now how exactly does that mean the "will of the people" is being served??

Future battles ahead!

Justice Ronnie White.

First, he was nominated for a Missouri District Court. Normally, these state-level courts are only filled by nominees acceptable to both home-state senators. Holds are normal when a President ignores this rule, and in most cases district court nominees are actually picked by the President from a list of judges provided by the home state senators.

Second, Ronnie White got a vote on the floor of the Senate. Senator Ashcroft, who had not blocked the nomination before hearings, said that after reviewing the record he decided to oppose the nomination.

Then he used his powers of persuasion to convince his fellow republicans to oppose the nomination.

And, because he was persuasive, and because the Republican Party had won the majority of seats in the Senate, they were able to vote down the nomination, for the first time since Robert Bork was voted down.

Brown is nominated to a CIRCUIT court, which is not a court belonging to a single state, but rather to several states (in this case, it is the FEDERAL circuit court, not the court of ANY state).

The "home state Senator" rule doesn't apply to the home state of the NOMINEE, it is the home state of the COURT the nominee is being nominated for.

Otherwise, you could simply have nominated people from friendly states to courts in unfriendly states.

Of course, we wouldn't expect Leahy to let the facts get in the way of a good rant. But you KNOW that he KNOWS these facts.
