ORANJESTAD, Aruba (AP) - About 700 volunteers joined police, soldiers and FBI agents on Monday, combing scrubland and beaches on Aruba's southeastern tip in an unprecedented search for an Alabama teenager who vanished a week ago on a trip to the Dutch Caribbean island.
Aruba's government let 4,000 civil servants off work early at 2 p.m. to hunt for Natalee Holloway, 18, of Mountain Brook, Ala. The expanded search began a day after police charged two men in her disappearance.
The honors student vanished May 30 while on a five-day trip with more than 100 classmates celebrating their high school graduation. About 40 adults, including seven chaperones, accompanied them.
Kenneth Angela and three co-workers from Aruba's lottery company were among the hundreds who boarded 10 buses in the community of Santa Cruz, about six miles from the capital, Oranjestad, to be taken to the search site.
``It's the first time Aruba has done such a big search,'' said Angela, a 31-year-old lottery supervisor. ``We want to keep Aruba's name good. That's why we're here, to help find Natalee.''

I agree. I posted on another thread about this idiocy. However, as I type, I recall that these guys are security guards at another hotel. Could they have used their position and maybe some official looking ID to get her to go with them?
Just a thought. My belief is it's either white slaving or she's dead. The fact that the security guards aren't quick to say they've got her stashed somewhere (in order to get a reduced sentence), but are not being cooperative, indicates to me that they are up to no good and are hoping (mistakenly) this all goes away if the police never find the body.
Very true. As one who has raised four daughters, I can say the years between 17 and 22 are the most dangerous. They feel they no longer need their mom's advice or their daddy's protection. Yet they are really very naive in the ways of the world.
I'm all for a return of the good old ways...they do not leave their father's house without permission, and then, only with a chaperone. Any man interested in them has to come to the father and ask permission to court his daughters.
The courtship is assumed to lead to a wedding within six months.
A marriage takes place only with the father's permission, after he has checked out the prospective fiance thoroughly
, and after the young man has proven his trustworthiness. The fiance must give documented proof that he can support the girl in the manner to which she is accustomed.
Ah, yes...dream on...those days are gone forever, much to the detriment of many a naive young girl.
I deeply respect these fine values you outline here sir, thank you for sharing them and good luck with your family. May only good things come to them .
Monday Search Failed To Uncover Clues To Holloway's Disappearance
ORANJESTAD, Aruba -- Another family said they know exactly what the parents of Natalee Holloway, the Alabama teenager who has been missing in Aruba since last week, are going through. They've been dealing with the same nightmare for seven years.
The Bradleys, of Virginia, went on a cruise in 1998 and Aruba was one of the stops. That's where their daughter disappeared.
Iva Bradley said her 23-year-old daughter, Amy, befriended three men who worked on the cruise ship and they wanted to take her to a bar in Aruba.
"They said they wanted to take her to a bar on Aruba that was called Carlos and Charlie's," said Bradley. "She made a face and said 'I wouldn't get off the ship with any of those guys anyway. That's creepy.'"...
Hmmmmmm....incident from seven years ago...and there is a tie-in with the same "Carlos and Charlie's" bar. Sounds like more than a coincidence to me.
Great catch! I hope a thorough investigation of Carlos and Charlie's will be done by our FBI.
Something stinks there.
Carlos and Charlies is just THE PARTY PLACE, like Margaritaville is in other locations in the Caribbean.
In Michael Crichton's
non-fiction book "Travels," he
devotes a chapter
to people who do
bluntly self-destructive things
while on vacation.
(He gives examples
of smart, successful women
who've travelled with him.)
If I remember
correctly, Crichton didn't
come to conclusions
about why people
sometimes acted stupidly
on vacation, but
he advises folks
that it's such a common thing
you must be on guard.
My parents live in Alabama and my youngest sister had the unenviable experience of going through the Alabama public school system. Believe me, no matter what kind of income level you're in in Alabama, you don't know anything about the world outside the USA.
And shoes are for the cold weather.
I guess that's why a school in B'ham was named as the nation's best. There are many excellent schools in the state and many bad ones. I'm not defending the public school system in Alabama - I sent my children to private school (and no, it is not a "seg" academy). I was put off by your condescending attitude about us Alabamans having never been anywhere, certainly not out of the state. And, btw, your last post continues the trend. You paint with a very broad brush.
Definately more than a coincidence! I have been doing some extensive research,(Investigating via internet) and this is my theory, The 5 subjects are obviously linked in the Holloway case, The bar "Carlos and Charli's' are linked in both the Bradley case in 1998, and the Holloway case now. Research proved that it is probable that their is an organized Sex slave network, which consists of "Luring or recruiting agents, Kidnappers, Brokers who buy girls, transit and shipping agents, which all play a part in human sex slave trafficking that is very popular in Venezuela, Brazil, Columbia, Trinidad, and many other places in close proximity of Aruba. After surfing - carribean sex slave trade, The evidence supporting my theory became very real.
I think that our new ultra PC culture has further given naive Americans a distinct disadvantage with regard to their safety when travelling abroad. And there are enough predators who are looking to take advantage of our ability to disregard our personal safety. I also think that the "brokers" and kidnappers are working for those who are looking for a group of victims of a certain age and type....e.g. between 16 and 25....blonde.....American.
Sadly, tourists areas would rather chance a few "incidents" at their resorts, than give travellers warnings against this type of crime. After all, they wouldn't want to scare away the lucrative tourist industry.
I read the same thing about Georgia and Atlanta too. These threads bring out the biggest nuts.
Also, notice how many posts in these threads are in favor of "turning back the clock".
Thinking you are right!
Many Columbian's in Aruba with easy excess back and forth to their country by boat or plane.
Check out the country highest on the list for American kidnapping.
