OTTAWA, Canada -- Canada's scandal-battered government suffered another blow Monday when a Liberal Party lawmaker opposed to the ruling party's efforts to legalize gay marriage resigned to become an independent.

Why didn't he resign a month ago when it would have meant something?
Good for him. Start of a deluge, please God.
He's a snitch, he should have done that before the confidence vote on the budget. Too little, too late. Did he not see the SSM bill coming?
He decided to stay with the Liberals in April after Prime Minister Paul Martin promised expanded debate of the marriage bill. But O'Brien said the "full and fair" debate he expected had not happened.
Funny that they would call him a "lawmaker." Our elected officials gave up making law after the Trudeau gave us his Charter. An unaccountable judiciary has been making law ever since.
Are they going to bring a new "No Confidence" vote now? That seems to have tipped the scales... especially if other socially conservative members of the Liberal Party defect wtih him.
