SAN NICOLAS, Aruba - Authorities detained two men Sunday in connection with the disappearance of an Alabama teenager, who went missing nearly a week ago in Aruba while on a high school trip, the attorney general said. ADVERTISEMENT
Caren Janssen called the men "suspects" in the disappearance of Natalee Holloway, 18, but declined to provide further details. The men were not among the three described earlier by police as "persons of interest."
Police officers and three FBI agents, who are playing a supportive role in the investigation, took the two men into custody at two different houses in the southeastern town of San Nicolas, according to an AP photographer at the scene.
Police knocked on the door of one house, put the suspect on the floor and handcuffed him. Officers later detained a second man. They both were led to an unmarked police car and taken away.
Neighbors described the men as security guards who worked at a hotel closed down for renovation near where the 18-year-old blonde was staying at the Holiday Inn. Police and FBI agents searched the hotel Saturday.
I just found this on the foxnews.com website:
Two Men Charged in Aruba Disappearance
Sunday, June 05, 2005
Associated Press
ORANJESTAD, Aruba Two men were charged Sunday in connection with the disappearance last week of an Alabama teenager who was visiting the island with classmates to celebrate their high school graduation, Aruba's attorney general said. Authorities on the Dutch Caribbean island also requested a special diving team from the FBI, said Attorney General Caren Janssen.
The arrests came nearly a week after 18-year-old Natalee Holloway disappeared during a five-day trip to Aruba with more than 100 other classmates from Mountain Brook High School, near Birmingham, Ala.
The men ages 28 and 30 were arrested Sunday morning at two separate homes in the southeastern community of San Nicolas, Janssen said at a news conference in the capital.
Janssen declined to provide specific charges, saying the case will go before a judge within 48 hours to determine whether they can be legally held. She said authorities had not found any of Holloway's belongings at the suspects' homes.
"The charges have a relationship with the disappearance," Janssen said, without providing details. "There is a reasonable suspicion they may be involved."
Janssen said authorities wanted the FBI diving team because of rough currents in some areas.

I have an Okoboji Univ sweatshirt, too. Nice place - sort of like the 50's.
You really don't know? It seems I overestimated you.
What makes Aruba a third world armpit?
The abduction and possible murder of an American tourist comes to mind. Then again, I suppose I shouldn't be surprised. Your posts suggest that you're more concerned about defending Aruba's tourist market than an American teenager's life.
Huh?
The abduction and possible murder of an American tourist comes to mind.
Using your criteria, every city in this country, and ANY country for that matter, of any size is a "third world armpit".
Then again, I suppose I shouldn't be surprised. Your posts suggest that you're more concerned about defending Aruba's tourist market than an American teenager's life.
Congrats, it's still early, but I think you win the non sequitur of the week award.
I don't give a damn about Aruba's tourism. I do give a damn about people like you making a racist fool of yourself on this board. The only possible reason you call Aruba a third world armpit is because it is populated by blacks. The idea that this isolated crime (only one other murder in the last SIX YEARS!) makes it what you say is beyond idiocy.
Well, I'm sorry she couldn;t have been abducted and probably murdered and fit your PC victim profile better so we could have then been found to be uncaring racists and proved you right and let you feel morally superior to all of us.
Damn her poor hide for being white and well off.
How odd that you become so excited when the issue is brought up. Me thinks thou doth protest too much!
Stop with the "Aruba is safe" BS. In 1986, my XO's head was smashed in with a brick by "highwaymen" who were "hungry". We had pulled in for 4 days. He later died of those injuries. Charges brought. No convictions. So much for "Holland" and Peace. Another one of those "Little Europe" fables.
The Navy secured liberty for our ship for the remaining 2 days because 5,000 men would have burned the F'ing Island to the ground. In fact, it should still be burned to the ground from what it appears. I volunteer.
The truth hurts, but it's true.
Once again you try to deflect the issue. You've made the claim that Aruba is a "third world armpit", we've asked for proof, all you can do is cite the current crime. The only possible reason you could feel that way is becuase the inhabitants are predominantly black. Your racism gives you away.
Oooh, the royal "We".
The only possible reason you could feel that way is becuase the inhabitants are predominantly black.
You're the only one discussing racial demographics.
None of which changes Aruba's status as a third world armpit.
But good luck on getting those free tickets you mentioned earlier!
IMHO, she would not consent to have group sex with three strangers. IF those three men claim that, I would not at this time believe them. The word "consensual" has been way overused by rapists.
It was a terribly poor decision to go off with three strangers, but she might have been vulnerable - one report stated that she was from a broken home.
They have ONE refinery, that is in fact a large employer, but Aruba was built on tourism. I've actually been there four times, and I can guarantee you that your assertion of it being a third world armpit couldn't be further off the mark. As far as Carribean Island's go, it's one of the cleanest and safest that I have ever visited.
Your perception of the truth hurts you alone.
Would someone enlighten me as to how parents could allow their children to go on high school vacation to Aruba? Sure they were supposed to be chaperoned. But that didn't work. Wake up folks there are evil predators out there and their victims could be your children.
I heard on Fox and Friends this morning there where only 6 chaperones and they were in another part of an amusement park
Sorry, but that is just inaccurate. If Aruba is a "third-world armpit" then we're going to have to open up classifications for "fourth-" and "fifth-world" to describe some other parts of the world.
The men she went to the beach with are apparently not natives of the island. One is from Holland and the other two are from Suriname.
