The 17-year-old Bucks County boy charged with having bomb-making equipment in his bedroom and threatening to blow up his school is a Canadian who hates Americans, prosecutors say.
Travis W. Biehn was ordered held at the county juvenile detention center Friday after Judge Kenneth G. Biehn no relation ruled the boy remains a danger to the community.
''He had the explosives in his home and the parents didn't know about it,'' said Assistant District Attorney Robert D. James, who is prosecuting the boy. ''We don't want to send that kid back home.''
Meanwhile, in a second sweep of Central Bucks East High School in Buckingham Township, where Travis Biehn is an 11th-grader and classes were canceled Friday, police using nine bomb-sniffing dogs turned up no explosives, James said.
District Attorney Diane E. Gibbons said police are trying to determine the boy's motive but added, ''He is very unhappy with Americans and would prefer to be in Canada.''
Gibbons said Biehn's family has resided in Buckingham Township since 1999 and that the boy's father, Brant, is an employee of drug manufacturer Merck & Co. The Biehns are living here on a resident visa, she said.
After a juvenile court procedure similar to an arraignment, Judge Biehn declined to release the boy to the custody of his parents.
Instead, he will be held at the county Youth Center in Doylestown Township at least until a hearing is held on the charges, which include possession of explosive devices and terroristic threats. No date has been set for the hearing, but under law it must be held within 10 days.

Gibbons said police found Biehn's parents to be uncooperative during the search. Gibbons said she could not provide the first name of the boy's mother, but the woman harassed investigators as they searched the house.
''The mother was verbally interfering with the police officers. She said her son should not cooperate. The father was also not cooperative,'' the district attorney said.
They've got to be taught, before its too late, before they are 6 or 7 or 8. They've got to be carefully taught. (to hate).
OK, throw the kid in jail and throw the parents back across the border. Easy call on this one.
If he hates (aka "is jealous of") Americans, why is he wanting to blow up a canuckistani school? He'd make a good democrat with that sort of intellect.
They must be avid listeners of Air America.
Canada ping.
He threatened to blow up an American school in Bucks County, Pennsylvania.
Stories like this serve as good reminders that enemies in other countries are only a small part of what threatens America today.
Why throw them across the border? Toss them in jail too for obstruction and aiding a terrorist.
Odd that a 17-year-old has his name released to the press. Usually minors (under 18) don't have names released. Maybe the "minor" age in PA is 16? Any Keystone State Freepers out there?
This is nothing but terrorism, and the Canadians are responsible for tolerating these anti-Americanism hate speech.
Throw the entire family into Gitmo.
I have no idea why they released his name, probably because the entire family ticked off the police. This kid didn't get like this overnight, they should have gone back to Canada a long time ago. This is a very upscale neighborhood, when I drive by there are a lot of American flags flying about, wonder how the neighbors feel.
Send them to Yellow Knife or Churchhill. No car. Fly 'em in, drop 'em off.
Cancel their visas and give them 48 hours to scoot back to Canada under supervision.
I recognize the words from the song in Rogers & Hammersteins', "South Pacific". They're appropriate. The problem is, is it's the Left that teaches hate at the same time it preaches pacificism. It's a counterproductive paradox and produces the monsters like the one in the article and in the last century.
Upscale neighborhood thing of the past? Back in Canada, safe and sound just imagine the time of their lives, telling their friends and neighbors in the trailer park about the horrible living conditions in the US.
...after caning the lot of 'em!
Where has the land that gave us John Candy gone?
I remember a time, as recently as 20 years ago, when Canadians were generally jolly, decent people. What happened?
Where did all these sour and self-righteous moonbats calling themselves Canadian come from?
Another product of all the Rat hate speech.
