Did anybody hear about an avalanche inside Mt St Helen this weekend. I caught the tail end of a report. I heard that parts of inside the crater were chunking off. I can't see anything . . .

Did anybody hear about an avalanche inside Mt St Helen this weekend. I caught the tail end of a report. I heard that parts of inside the crater were chunking off. I can't see anything . . . The avalanche is likely debris falling from the growing dome within the crater (the 'Whaleback' - visible in the central portion of the crater). The dome is very steep sided and is growing 6-10 feet per day. This causes the sides to become unstable and occasional rock avalanches will occur.
