The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

Threat Matrix - Daily Terrorism Threat
Threat Matrix: U.S. Terrorism
Expert: Al-Qaida Has Presence In South Florida
Full Story

MIRAMAR, Fla. -- Despite the massive federal, state and local law enforcement effort to stop terrorists from entering the United States, there is no strong evidence of how well it is working.

Many experts are concerned that there are plenty of terrorists or sympathizers already in the country who have been here for years. Some are even citizens.

The Sept. 11, 2001, hijackers were the first wave and now the increasing number of arrests seems to signal a second wave of terrorism in South Florida.

Release them on their own recognizance, never to be seen again."

It's as if they are one step short of putting up Welcome Wagons all along the border and inviting them in, no matter who they are or what their intent.

I still can't understand how the authorities are stopping cell service within the tunnels, etc, without disrupting related service areas. How does one do that? With a jammer?

Me too my cell doesn't work half the time in the mountains. I know it wont work in a tunnel??????

Quite bluntly, they would not be welcomed by the locals such as myself.

Mr Davey was reading to me the other day on some survival site about 17 people that had some hide out just in case. They told there children, if they didn't bring food and ammo not to come. I chuckled about it but boy, I want all my children here.

Warning to all, if something like this happens it will be only the well armed that will survive. City folks are not going to be welcome anywhere.

Italy arrests 142 in anti-terrorism sweep ROME - Police said Saturday they had arrested 142 people in a two-day anti-terrorism security sweep around Milan prompted by the bombings two days earlier in London. Some 2,000 carabinieri fanned out across the Lombardy region, stepping up patrols around train stations, subways, commercial centers and other sensitive sites, the regional commander of the paramilitary police, Gen. Antonio Girone, said in a phone interview. Girone said the operation was focusing on Milan because it had been the major focus of Italian investigations into Islamic terrorism and because it “could be a major risk of possible attacks.” He said the measures were designed to make people “feel calmer after the London attacks.” Story continues below ↓ advertisement Of those arrested, 84 were immigrants and authorities issued 52 expulsion orders, he said. Most of those arrested were accused on drug, petty theft or immigration-related charges, he said. Possible target The operation was one of the most visible signs of stepped up security measures around Italy following Thursday’s attacks in London and threats that Italy might be targeted as well for its support of the U.S.-led wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The Interior Ministry said it was stepping up police and intelligence controls around the country, and in particular around sites most at risk of terrorist attack. British installations in Italy were the top priorities. But some 13,246 sites around the country — including U.S. and NATO bases, telecommunications centers, public utilities and the Turin 2006 Winter Olympics site — also were under special surveillance and had been since the beginning of the year, the ministry said. The ministry also said it was looking into possible new emergency legislation to deal with the terrorist risk. It didn’t elaborate. The new measures came after a group calling itself “The Secret Organization of al-Qaida in Europe” said the bombings were punishment for British involvement in the U.S.-led wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and said Italy and Denmark would be attacked for their support of the U.S.-led coalitions in both countries, too. Berlusconi announces troop withdrawal Premier Silvio Berlusconi said Friday that Italy would begin withdrawing 300 troops from Italy’s 3,000-strong contingent in Iraq, but denied the withdrawal was linked to any terrorist threats against Italy. He had previously said he hoped to begin withdrawing troops by September, though officials later pushed the date back to early 2006. Berlusconi is a staunch ally of President Bush and sent about 3,000 troops to Iraq after the fall of Saddam Hussein to help rebuild the country. Italy also has about 910 troops in Afghanistan. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8523140/

Hi AD.

I have to admit, except for that one analyst stating this about the "90 days;" I really haven't seen that anywhere else.

HOWEVER...

Terrorism is global.
Terrorists are global.
With that in mind, an attack
anywhere at any time is always
a possibility.

Police seize arms cache from city clothing store
Baltimore Sun ^

Posted on 07/09/2005 6:02:18 AM PDT by holymoly

Baltimore police said yesterday they raided an East Baltimore clothing store allegedly used as a front for the illegal sale of high-powered weapons and accessories, including assault rifles, shotguns, handguns, ammunition and body armor.

Organized-crime detectives raided the store, Moon Wear in the 2400 block of Greenmount Ave. on Thursday, about 15 hours after its owner, Andre Mills, 33, was pulled over on a traffic stop, police said. During the stop, officers said they discovered ammunition for high-powered rifles.

Police obtained a warrant and searched the store, recovering one Bushmaster assault rifle, three handguns, a Mossberg shotgun equipped with a sidewinder drum magazine and laser sight, 34 handgun magazines, five holsters, 100 boxes of shotgun shells and about 1,000 rounds of ammunition, including rounds used in AK-47 assault rifles. Police also recovered $1,200 in cash.

"We do believe [the suspect] was trafficking firearms" from the store, said Anthony Barksdale, acting chief of the department's organized crime division. "It looks like we got quite a bit of weapons, but some might be on the street."

"Accused Pakistani woman has feet chopped off" 09 Jul 2005 10:53:00 GMT

Source: Reuters

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "ISLAMABAD, July 9 (Reuters) - A Pakistani man and some of his relatives chopped off his wife's feet after accusing her of being promiscuous, police said on Saturday.

The woman survived the gruesome attack, the latest in a wave of assaults that have raised international concern about the plight of women in Pakistan, particularly in conservative rural areas.

"It is a shameful act of cruelty against a woman and we are taking it seriously," said Talat Ali, a senior police official in Punjab province. "Those who have carried out this crime will not be spared."

The 32-year-old woman told police her feet were chopped off on June 24 by her husband, her father-in-law, a brother-in-law and two others after they accused her of being "of bad character", a euphemism for promiscuous.

Violence against women is common in rural Pakistan where tribal and feudal customs hold sway.

The latest incident occurred in central Punjab province where the 2002 gang-rape of a woman, Mukhtaran Mai, on the orders of a village council, triggered an international outcry.

President Pervez Musharraf, who is trying to project Pakistan as a moderate and progressive Muslim nation, has condemned violence against women and said his government was committed to ensuring victims got justice."
