I say keep the red planet red, for now. There's still precious little we know about it, and I prefer for us to explore every nook and cranny of the planet before we try to modify it.

I do too, I mean eventually we would terraform. Spend 50 years just exploring and all that. Then we'll see.
However, if we ever establish permanent colonies, terraforming will be inevitable.

Hog Wash. Spread and conquest is an admirable goal. If that way of thinking was present in the settlers we would have nothing in the US but a couple thousand land bound Jacques Cousteaus roaming the country side still documenting the "nook and crannies" today.
If a cataclysmic event ever did overtake earth the only way of surviving would be to have another viable climate and population elsewhere.
