I never considered it too big a deal who deep throat was, personally and know more about it right now than I ever have - I'm just posting stuff I'm seeing for the first time. ... I DO believe Nixon got screwed because he was trying to be overprotective of his staff - and that impeaching him was way over the top. I would have rather the Senate/House had looked for the treasonous leakers and stomp on them, but since that was never going to happen (and it hasn't and won't) it was ridiculous to be worried about this, and I haven't. If this was FBI leaking, as now appears possible, for whatever reason, I'm very angry they did not go this route - imprisoning the reporters for however long it took.
I imagine it possible that the reporters had Felt as a primary source, and decided they needed to hang on him a few miscellaneous items they had dug up elsewhere to throw people off his trail as well as to avoid revealing other secondary sources - and it sounds that would be completely consistent with everything but their "not a composite" contention - but right now, all I care about is using this against the Old Media louses if at all possible.
I suspect that within days, we'll hear that DT was partially a composite, but Felt was the primary personality.
Like I say, though, I'm far more hopeful of usint this as a way to demean "journalists" and their "professors" and "schools" than I am for the story, now. It would also vindicate Nixon's judgement - and that, I've always respected even when that resulted in his getting fried, essentially, merely for being loyal to his friends.
I see exactly what you mean. And I think it quite possible this will indeed come about. I haven't been able to trust the MSM for many years; and now.. Just Because a Democrat Traitor and a Democrat Hack say "Felt" is the one, we're all supposed to just "follow"? lol!! This is a hoot, bigtime. :)
Furthermore, imagine how many wanna be journalists and perhaps those of Helen "Inky" Thomas' flavor shall have the newer means of inviegling readership in newer conspiracies surrounding those "hidden" events of Watergate! Now the details of those alleged meetings with Felt, and his concerns at the time may, at LAST STAND ...REVEALED. Sidewing Dems in the press will write odes to Felt -- about how this dear "patriot" can now go with ease to his deathbed". How the Democrats wish... ALL THE ELDERLY HAD SUCH EASE IN THEIR OLD AGE.. meanwhile.. blipping headlines news.. "keep social security as it isss........."). What a great script!, they'll say to each other. We've done it again! Wag the Gate!
Oh! But how it will hurt, yet again, so badly, when the truth is revealed. The left will claim it was Bush's fault that Nixon's ghost was ressurrected... And that is their game plan: Obstructionism. Pure and simple while they all play at Drama Queening wishing they had Angelina Jolie's waistline and Hillary's dexterity with a glass ashtray..new headline: "Poor Brad Pitt, he wants to be a daddy, he'll beg to be a daddy...

It's all about the money. Felt's family wants to cash in on a big book deal before he loses all of his memory and passes away -- and before Woodward has a chance to pre-empt or cut them out completely with his own book. Almost everything these days is about self-promotion and cashing-in. What'll be really interesting is how the already-clear tension between the Felts and Woodwards over who'll enjoy the benefits will play out. Could get ugly...and public.
