And all this time we thought it was a girl with the monica.........moniker of Linda Lovelace.

I can't for the life of me think of any reason why I should take Woodward's word for anything.

"In their book All the President's Men, journalists Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein said their Watergate source, Deep Throat, worked in the Executive Branch and was "an incurable gossip". He smoked. He liked Scotch. He distrusted the telephone."

Felt didn't smoke. Felt drank martinis, not scotch. Felt was FBI, not White House. Felt *loved* the telephone. He was one of the few FBI agents who would answer reporters' phone calls.

Not to mention that if RN had remained President it is unlikely North Vietnam could have conquered the South. That was only possible because the 1974 "Watergate" Congress cut off all gasoline and ammunition to South Vietnam, leaving them unable to defend themselves.

RE: In a statement today, Woodward and Bernstein said, "W. Mark Felt was 'Deep Throat' and helped us immeasurably in our Watergate coverage. However, as the record shows, many other sources and officials assisted us and other reporters for the hundreds of stories that were written in The Washington Post about Watergate."

Thank you for that.

I've read through the first 218 replies and noticed that like me a few are wondering where's the other sources. I clearly remember the TV and print media wild-eyed frenzy. It was anything goes to destroy Nixon. (It had the added bonus of helping the media's Ho in Hanoi.)

Just imagine if the MSM can gen up a "Watergate" on President Bush. It could have the added bonus (in their view) of disrupting things for us in Iraq.

IMO one of the main sources that the W-P used was a hand full of crap flung against the wall. If it stuck they stuck with it. In other words, was "Deep Throat" used as a "source" for that crap. We've seen time and time again how the MSM works. Just how much (or little) did "Deep Throat" actually tell those two W-P clowns?

Felt didn't smoke.

Not since 1946. lol! I guess that's why W & B are huddling tonight to get their story straight. There was film of Bernstein with his suit bag following Woodward into a house this afternoon. They both were laughing and trying to ignore "the press".

So what's the major difference between the Nixon-Felt story and the Clinton-Tripp story? Felt had a duty to do something and didn't. Tripp had no duty to act but did. And Tripp is vilified and Felt with be a hero.

Amazing isn't it.

Also, Tripp was a public source. Felt, hid behind his little annonymous secret never admitting it to anybody in public. How brave is that? How bold is that? What a sissy he is.

Tripp is a hero -- Felt isn't.

I am still suspicious that the whole thing went down much differently than the dramatic way Woodward described it. Felt said "I'm the guy THEY used to call Deep Throat"

You are way over-parsing here.

The tapes were never released as far as I've heard. But after the war Gen'l Giap told of North Vietnam's use of American antiwar groups in an interview with French journalists.

More believable if DT alias MF is still alive, had Felt not give the OK while he was still alive there would have been much more skepticism to it's truth.

Exactly.

$$ for the family.

They sure acted like they hit the jackpot.

I don't believe their plea to regard dear old dad/grandad as a hero will be accepted by the much maligned American people.

To think that a nobody did this because he was slighted. What a petty, little man. His actions proved that he didn't deserve promotions and access to even more confidential information.

What a jerk--and to think that he and his family and the rest of an adoring cast of sheeple think that he was some sort of "hero"!

Like I say, though, I'm far more hopeful of usint this as a way to demean "journalists" and their "professors" and "schools" than I am for the story, now.

I see exactly what you mean. And I think it quite possible this will indeed come about. I haven't been able to trust the MSM for many years; and now.. Just Because a Democrat Traitor and a Democrat Hack say "Felt" is the one, we're all supposed to just "follow"? lol!! This is a hoot, bigtime. :)

Furthermore, imagine how many wanna be journalists and perhaps those of Helen "Inky" Thomas' flavor shall have the newer means of inviegling readership in newer conspiracies surrounding those "hidden" events of Watergate! Now the details of those alleged meetings with Felt, and his concerns at the time may, at LAST STAND ...REVEALED. Sidewing Dems in the press will write odes to Felt -- about how this dear "patriot" can now go with ease to his deathbed". How the Democrats wish... ALL THE ELDERLY HAD SUCH EASE IN THEIR OLD AGE.. meanwhile.. blipping headlines news.. "keep social security as it isss........."). What a great script!, they'll say to each other. We've done it again! Wag the Gate!

Oh! But how it will hurt, yet again, so badly, when the truth is revealed. The left will claim it was Bush's fault that Nixon's ghost was ressurrected... And that is their game plan: Obstructionism. Pure and simple while they all play at Drama Queening wishing they had Angelina Jolie's waistline and Hillary's dexterity with a glass ashtray..new headline: "Poor Brad Pitt, he wants to be a daddy, he'll beg to be a daddy...

Bring the popcorn.

Pres Reagan pardoned Mark Felt for spying on some antiwar groups.

I posted President Reagans statement and Pardon towards Mark Felt.

I know it was for his involvement in stuff towards left wing groups, but the phrase "Full and Unconditional" is used in President Reagans statement.

Also some of the folks who did suspect Mark Felt also did work under President Reagan.

Silent Coup was awesome. John Dean also has proven his "worthiness" for higher things by his whiny behavior and turn-coat commentaries. Whenever I see him "on", my tv goes "off".
