Navies other than the US are just useful objects of target practice. The US technological lead in this big. Heck, even China's desire to control the Taiwan straits is just a fantasy, and will be for the forseeable future.

& what exactly is the logic behind your point??Just because the US Navy is miles ahead doesn't mean that other navies don't have needs & those requirements have a lot more to them than just challenging the USN.With the rate of improvement in Indo-US ties,it won't be inconcievable if US naval forces can use this facility, which is at the crossroads of the Arabian Sea,Indian Ocean & Bay of Bengal.

I dont know what you mean by that. What has US technological lead got to do with India strengthening its navy. So if US technological lead makes it overwhelmingly strong still thats no reason why India (or for that matter countries like Japan and Australia) shouldn't be having a navy. Just because the US is far too strong does not mean that its a waste of time and money for others to guard once border, shipping lanes, economic zone and protect onself from enemies.

Errr.. dude. The Indian Navy is in no way a rival of the US. We ain't going to go to war with India like ever. THe Indian navy helps the US in keeping peace in the Indian ocean and keeping the Malacca straits open.
