LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- An Alabama woman is seeking class-action status for a lawsuit against a Dillard's Inc. hair salon for allegedly charging black women more than white women.
Debbie Deavers Sturvisant alleges that a hair salon in a Tuscaloosa, Ala., Dillard's department store charged $35 to wash and set her hair, while white women paid $20 for the same service.
Sturvisant's lawsuit could bring a whole new level of attention to the general practice across the country of charging differently for hair care based on ethnicity.
Officials in Arizona, California, Florida, Maryland and Massachusetts have already addressed race- and sex-based pricing differences at hair salons.
"The stereotype is that all black hair is the same. But that's erroneous...

Go to any barber shop and you will see the same amount charged for a kid with a full head of hair as the old guy that's balding. Big deal...
It's a private enterprise, as stupid as I think it is, people should have the right to do what they want, whether it be hiring their dad to work for them over a more qualified black person, or charging males more, or whatever.
If I'm treated unfairly over a hair cut, I just don't go back.If they had a problem with the price that should have been settled beforehand.
I usually get charged less. See my name!
I think that is the point of the lawsuit and from your comment, you are on the side of the plaintiff.
So, the result of the lawsuit will be that Dillards will raise the price of services for non-"Black Hair", so everything's equalized. Problem solved.
Balding

It's God's way of making men more appealing to attract the most intelligent mate.

How?
Why is this even news that different racial types require different practices?
I wonder if Old English Sheepdogs get charged more than Labrador Retrievers at the groomers?
Not really. I think you would be upset if the store charged you more for the same thing as the next guy. In simple terms, it is an un american practice.
yes, but there will always be people that are fair, if a guy want to rent a jetski to his girlfriend for fifty an hour, and to me for two hundred, then tough luck for me, I can find another place that will rent them to everybody for only 150.
Perhaps they should charge on a per hair basis.
That would be fair. But it would take much longer.
BTTT
It's much worse than that. Some groomers refuse to service particular breeds because they find their hair difficult to work with. So if this lady thinks she has it bad, she ought to talk to a poor Shih-Tzu-American or a Lhasa-American.
Hmmm O.K. It's not a big deal. My wife (who is black) has been told by numerous hairdressers that they can't do her hair not because she's black but because they do not have enough experience to do it correctly.
At first we got all our hackles raised but one hairdresser calmly expalained that we'd be alot more angry if he screwed up her hair than if he just refused and refered us to someone who could do a better job.
So I can see why someone would charge more, nothing to do with racism at all.
Nothing to see here.
No, it is not!
I also own more than one business, and it is the only fair way to conduct business.
Your father's incorporation of fees to all is totally unfair to those that do not require that level of service, but guess what? He has the right to be unfair.
Are you crazy, or just a communist?
