The .50 caliber military rifle is banned in California, but it's still available in 49 states [caption text from 60-minutes article]

Sixty Minutes lashes out at the second amendment.

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. --Second Amendment (not a collective right!)

The purpose of having a deadly weapon is so the police can use deadly force when they have to; this weapon does that job.

The 60 Minutes crowd lives in a fantasy world with phasers you can set on "stun" but that ain't the world known as Reality.

Of course the 60 Minutes crowd probably all live in gated communities and have paid security. I have a feeling if they called the police because of an intruder they would want the officers to respond with lethal force.

Diaz says the .50-caliber rifle made by Barrett and other manufacturers is a menace in the hands of terrorists. "This gun is designed and built to smash things up and to set things on fire," says Diaz. "It’s a battlefield weapon. Yet it is sold as freely on the American civilian market as a .22 bolt action rifle."

Terrorists have 'em?

Then I'm gonna need one.

The 60 Minutes crowd lives in a fantasy world in which the second amendment can be revoked without a shot being fired.

They fear the Second Amendment because it is one more thing insuring the citizen can determine his or her own life, and the 60 Minutes gang doesn't believe in that, obviously.

Just out of pure curiosity (I haven't been buying -much less shooting- in years), what do they run on average pricewise?

This is exactly what the FBI learned in 1993 at Waco when Branch Davidians fired a Barrett .50-caliber sniper rifle at them.

???

Thanks for the ping to your post. My wife happened to change the channel to See Bull Stools' show of agitprop. Add the keywords bang and banglist so most of the folks interested in the Constitution can read it when this topic is in the news. Welcome to FreeRepublic.com on the current Memorial Day. It sounds auspicious. For your first post, this is excellent!

I was particularly interested in the reference to APCs being brought out against Davidian 50-caliber rifles at Waco. I didn't know this, or if it were true.

As far as I know, many more terrorists have been sent to paradise by this baby than have terrorized anyone with it.

Thanks, I see the appropriate keywords are now in place. Memorial Day is a good time to remember that the second amendment is one of the most important parts of the constitution -- and one that every fallen American warrior died preserving.

IIRC, the Waco Wackos (they were nutcases, but they broke no laws and did not deserve what they got) owned at least one .50 BMG rifle, but it was never used against the Feds - or anyone else.

Another lie from the Left - just like "there were no Army helicopters at Waco" and "we didn't set the place on fire".

"The .50-caliber rifle, one of the world’s best combat weapons, was invented 22 years ago in Murfreesboro, Tenn., by Ronnie Barrett."

Just like the rest of the hackjob piece, there's so many things wrong with this statement that it's not even funny.
