Sixty Minutes lashes out at the second amendment.

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. --Second Amendment (not a collective right!)

The purpose of having a deadly weapon is so the police can use deadly force when they have to; this weapon does that job.

The 60 Minutes crowd lives in a fantasy world with phasers you can set on "stun" but that ain't the world known as Reality.

Of course the 60 Minutes crowd probably all live in gated communities and have paid security. I have a feeling if they called the police because of an intruder they would want the officers to respond with lethal force.

Diaz says the .50-caliber rifle made by Barrett and other manufacturers is a menace in the hands of terrorists. "This gun is designed and built to smash things up and to set things on fire," says Diaz. "It’s a battlefield weapon. Yet it is sold as freely on the American civilian market as a .22 bolt action rifle."

Terrorists have 'em?

Then I'm gonna need one.

This is exactly what the FBI learned in 1993 at Waco when Branch Davidians fired a Barrett .50-caliber sniper rifle at them.

???

As far as I know, many more terrorists have been sent to paradise by this baby than have terrorized anyone with it.

"The .50-caliber rifle, one of the world’s best combat weapons, was invented 22 years ago in Murfreesboro, Tenn., by Ronnie Barrett."

Just like the rest of the hackjob piece, there's so many things wrong with this statement that it's not even funny.

I had a Boyse rifle back before 1968, when it was banned. I was never tempted to use it on anything except barrels of water and an occasional watermelon.
All the libs are doing is trying to cut one critter out of the flock at a time, then, they will be back for the next one.

I'm sure John Moses Browning would disagree with that were he here to make a statement.

A year ago, at Attorney General John AshcroftÕs initiative, Congress reduced the period of record keeping from 90 days to 24 hours. ThatÕs the policy thatÕs in effect today.

Now we see what the craze to ban .50 caliber rifles is about. Even if the guns are not banned, they will try to register all guns -- and not just for 24 hours or 90 days. They will use it as an excuse to make the gun registry permanent. It is obvious who will be on the list and who won't. This is just a move against law-abiding citizens.

And, as Correspondent Ed Bradley first reported last January, it's powerful enough to kill a man or pierce armor from more than a mile away.

Correspondent Ed Bradley is going to pee himself once it's explained to him that one reason the Second Amendment exists is so that the American People can kill the goverment if it becomes too tyrannical.

Yo, Ed! Here's a hint, you moron: Big Stupid Government is not headed in the correct direction down the road.

"Aren't records kept when a gun is sold," asks Bradley. "The answer is no," says Diaz.

In a word, Mr. Diaz is a LIAR.

Fifties make the politicians nervous. Their security perimeter is less than 2,000 yards, I bet.

I bet the Barrett groups over four feet at 2,000 yards, more like eight feet with that recoiling barrel. I suspect more vertical stringing than that.

I am not an authority on the Barrett's accuracy. Anybody know, really? In practice, not hearsay? At 2,000 yards?

If the United States government would control WHO gets into the United States, it would not have to turn America into a Big Brother police state where U.S. citizens are denied constitutional rights. The 9/11 terrorists were here because the U.S. government LET THEM INSIDE THE COUNTRY.

Our government, specifically the Clinton State Department, let these foreign murderers in.

The U.S. State Department globalist idiots who let those butchering, third-world barbarians into our homeland should be serving life terms in prison for the deaths of more than three thousand who died from an utter, wanton disregard for our security. The enemy are our own foolish government bureaucrats whose recklessness got thousands of us killed.

The murderers didn't need a Barrett Rifle to kill thousands. Those mass murderers simply used common razor box cutters.

Welcome terrorists! The U.S. State Department wants you to make yourself at home among Americans while you plot your butchery against us using common household items!

"The .50-caliber rifle, one of the world’s best combat weapons, was invented 22 years ago in Murfreesboro, Tenn., by Ronnie Barrett."

So this thing has been around a quarter of a Century and NO PROBLEMS.

NOW, all of sudden, its a problem.

These left-wing sissy gurlie men and their schrieking feminazi banshee allies make me sick to my stomach.

In many states where .50 caliber weapon bans are being considered or in effect, do not discriminate between even a modern high powered rifle like this one and a muzzle-loader.

This is creeping disarmament by a bunch of eltist utopian morons who think that by taking the guns away from EVERYBODY, somehow all "bad" people will no longer to get them.

They should read a history book.

These are the same kind of wimps whostarted back years ago punishing thier entire grade school class because one delinquient acted up and they were too gutless to go after him as an individual.

Same kind of twisted, gurlie man thinking.

And Schwarzenegger, desppite HIS rhetoric and hormones is a Gurlie-man himself.

Anybody who can sleep with a Kennedy has no self-respect.

"A Senate report said that a bullet from a .50-caliber rifle, even at 1.5 miles, crashes into a target with more energy than a bullet fired at point-blank range from Dirty Harry’s famous .44 Magnum."

Boy the Senate is taking on a lot more responsibility than in years past. Choosing the judiciary, making decisions for the President, and now, firearms experts. I wish I had that report along with a few pages of the Koran as I am fresh out of TP.

My son is a Marine and he just sent a 30 second video of him firing one of these babies over in Israel. Unlike the NYC targets at 300 yards the Marines start at 600 yards. When you hit someone with this they stay down.

"...this product is such a threat to our health and safety, and in this case, our national security, we will not allow it.""

How come thse guys never have to actually back up what they say(claim)?

Many opponents of this weapon being available to the public point to its being a military grade weapon. THAT is the reason that it SHOULD ALWAYS be available to the public. Sure ban the howitzers etc but banning this gun is going too far. WE may one day need it to throw off any oppressors who may come along.

Remember the California Assault Weapons Control Act of 1989 (AWCA). It banned and confiscated SKS's throughout the state. Even tough I wan born there I will never move back to CA.
