Free trade zones can't last very long without there being powerful calls for some type of superintending authority, especially in Europe.

There version of a "Free Trade Zone" is actually based on the United States.

Which is part of the reason they are in a rush to dump soverignty, so they can be states in a Union like us, but they have totally screwed up.

And the people in our government are bent on imitating them back. The FTAA comes to mind.
