He notes, too, that he doesn't smoke, again as his church counsels, but that it was public-health arguments that caused him to approve a ban on smoking in public places.

Regardless of his religion by signing a smoking ban it shows

a) He has no respect for Private Property

b) He believes junk science

Either which means he shouldn't be the Republican nomination, nor President

I'm another of the 17 percent, solely because of the vast differences in theology between traditional Christianity and Mormonism as listed in the paragraphs in the above article.

Romney has a lot bigger problem in where he is from (Massachusetts) than in his religion. The Republican candidate is not going to come from a blue state that he couldn't carry in a general election.

I am one of that 17 percent.

No way, no how would I vote for a heretic to lead this nation.

If it comes down between the witch from Arkansas/New York who will definitely impose her religion on you and a heretic who definitely will not, will you still vote for the witch?

Before answering, look at the map above and consider what happened the last time the Republicans ran a governor from Massachusetts. (P.S. the map is in the proper colors-- the Dems are Commie Red).

I live among many of the LDS faith here in Arizona. By and large, good people. I'd take ten of 'em to one northeastern liberal type anytime. Anytime.

Don't agree with Mormonism, fine, but let's try to keep the facts straight.

Brigham Young instituted polygamy he said after divine revelation, after the pioneers had trekked to SLC and thousands of the men (including Joseph Smith) had been murdered or jailed by so called good Christians.

Joseph Smith had 1 wife, Emma, not 15 as the article says. We Mormons, really try to live our religion, and therefore do not bear false witness against our neighbors...unlike some of our otherwise good Christian brothers and sisters when they are speaking of us.

On another note, I believe that only two types of people live in Massachusetts, the wicked wealthy, and those who chose to raise their families in their presence. I don't believe I could vote for Romney.

I have absolutely nothing against Mormons. I'm not one of the 17 percent.
But the way that JFK won in 1960 was by distancing himself from the Pope.
A Mormon cannot distance himself from his/her prophet. And Americans don't like the idea of someone running the scenes from backstage.

I think we can all find common ground that we won't be supporting McCain in 2008.

If there is any doubt as to the likelihood he'd have problems getting elected, read back on old threads about Mormonism before Jim Rob cracked down on Mormon bashing.

If the reaction there were any indication, even the nomination would likely be beyond his reach.

Romney is actually a good guy.

The political reality is that the Massachusetts legislature has almost total control and the Governor is largely a ceremonial position especially when the seat is held by a Republican which it has been for going on 20 years. Romney has had vetoes overridden several times (I'd bet it is a record nbr. but I do not have the time to look up the info.) by the liberal hacks on Be-A-Con Hill in Boston.

I do not think that Romney is really a RINO. Around here he is often referred to as a right wing extremist. That is hardly the case. Romney is not nearly the RINO type as say Chafee, or Snowe and a host of others.

Orrin Hatch is a liberal. He supports free postsecondary tuition for illegal aliens. HE SHOULD NOT BE PRESIDENT!

"heretic":

n.
A person who holds controversial opinions, especially one who publicly dissents from the officially accepted dogma of the Roman Catholic Church.

I guess a lot of people would be considered heretics...including Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush?
