On the Sean Hannity Program today there was serious discussion that former Congressman John Kasich could challenge Senator Mike DeWine in next year's Republican primary in Ohio. Besides being a former congressman Kasich is known as a fill-in host of Fox News Channel.
How about as a running mate with George Allen?
I hope so and he's got my vote!
He has a show on FNC on Saturday at 8:00 p.m., "Heartland" (in addition to filling in for BOR from time to time).
Personally, I can't stand his show -- the way he talks reminds me of a third-grader told to "read with expression!" Since I can't stand it, I seldom catch any of it, but once in a while I do. He hasn't sounded noticeably conservative, but he also seems to prefer the sensational as topics.
Wasn't he supposed to have been a member of that rather questionable gang in Congress Condit ran with in his spare time?
That is just trash you're tossing around. He was friends with Condit so that makes him suspect? Kasich wished to devote his full attention to running for President.I wouldn't just speculate that he was running around on his wife without any foundation. That is pretty damn scurrilous.
I have been hoping he would jump in the Ohio governor's race.
Am I the only one who remembers this?
I have a very close relative who was running his Presidential campaign.I kept a very close on the events surrounding Kasich at the time. There was NO scandal whatsoever. He was also the reliable conservative in the primaries, especially since GWB had bashed California's Prop 187.
Yes they will and Yes they have one. Ted Strictland is going to be the Democratic candidate for the Senate in 2006. Strickland was going to run for Ohio Governor, but changed his mind. He just announced that he will not run for the governorship in 2006 but will "likely" run for the Senate.
Here is Strickland's biography.
Congressman Ted Strickland was born on August 4, 1941 in Lucasville , Ohio . The son of a steelworker, and one of nine children, Ted spent his childhood active in church and school life.
Ted attended Asbury College in Kentucky , receiving a B.A. in History and Master of Divinity from Asbury Theological Seminary. Ted continued his studies at the University of Kentucky , receiving a doctoral degree in Counseling Psychology in 1980.
Ted is married to Frances Smith Strickland of Simpsonville, KY. Frances is an educational psychologist and author of a widely used screening test for kindergarten-age children. She has also authored a childrens book, The Little Girl Who Grew Up To Be Governor.
Professionally, Ted has served as a minister, a psychologist, and a college professor. He was the director of a Methodist childrens home, an assistant professor of psychology at Shawnee State University , and a consulting psychologist at the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility (SOCF).
During his last five terms in Congress, Ted has served on the House Energy and Commerce Committee, where he has fought to secure a meaningful prescription drug benefit under Medicare and to reform the managed care industry. Ted is also an active member of the Congressional Steel Caucus and has fought to protect American industry and jobs from unfair foreign competition.
Last term, Ted also became a member of the House Committee on Veterans Affairs. As a member of that committee, he has been tireless in his advocacy for full funding of promised veterans health programs.
Strictland is a Congressman from Southern and Eastern Ohio. He is a minister, a family man, and he has great grass roots ties.
Strickland has spent 15 years as a Congressman representing Republican MUST HAVE counties in Southern Ohio. He lost his seat in 1994 but won it back in 1996. He has had no trouble beating RINO Republicans in counties Bush easily carried in 2004.
Strickland will have great shot at beating DeWine. A Democrat with solid Democratic support, vetrans support and the religious voter support couldn't win many Ohio elections against a RINO could he?
People who had a lot to do with making Dayton close for Bush in 2004, won't lift a finger for Dewine in 2006. Dewine has ticked off the grass roots. If he wants to be reelected he needs a 100 percent conservative voting record for the remainder of this term and a ton of fence mending. He is too busy kissing the Media's butt to do anything except tell us he is great.
I don't think DeWine can beat Strictland, but Kasich could.
Please let it be true, Oh please let it be true. A true conservative in the republican party in the state of Ohio would make my day!
I'm not at all big on Hannity's interviewing skills of other Republicans, BUT I give him credit for asking THE QUESTION in his interview with Graham. He asked if Graham was acting on his own or with the knowledge of the Republican leadership (Frist and the boys.) You could tell Graham was hoping that question wasn't going to happen, but he VERY reluctantly answered that he had kept Frist aware of everything that went on in the negotiations. That was the first clue anybody was given that these 7 "moderates" are not off the reservation at all, just doing the bidding of the WH and the Republican leadership. Last nite more of the story comes out on Brit Hume's show that Frist's claim to "not have been a PARTY to the negotiations" is sort of true when the WH tried to cover for DeWine and Graham (who in the not-too-distant future will have to stand for election) by blaming Specter (who was recently re-elected and not likely to run again IF he lives to see 2010.) Being from PA, I might even have bought that Specter screwed them, except they went on to try to blame him for the losing cloture vote on Bolton because he left town early. My suspicions were confirmed when they overplayed their hand on that one. There isn't going to be (and never was going to be) a "nuclear option." They are going to dance us hoping we will come back in '06 and reward them (for the 3rd time) for screwing us on judges.
Why would DeWine do this? It was a stupid move on every level.
You're right. Sean did well in his questioning of Graham. However, I sensed a hesitation to go after him on today's program. His ire seemed to be directed at DeWine alone as opposed to DeWine and Lindsay. The talkshow host in Ohio, Cunningham, however, was extremely worked up and went after both of them, along with Senator Crybaby.
And in 2008
Graham vs. Thomas Ravanel (SC)
Warner vs. ?????
Rumor is that Warner plans to retire, which is why no one has focused on finding a primary opponent against him. Otherwise he would be taking the same hits Graham and DeWine are.
we live in NWCental Ohio and the conservative Republicans are not happy and I can just about bet that the very conservative Republicans in SW Ohio are not happy and if McCain comes to help his good friend Mike DeWine campaign, it may just help "fan the flames" against DeWine.
I could be wrong, but I used to listen to WKBN talk radio in Youngstown until Clear Channel bought it in the late '90's. Seems to me Strictland is REALLY REALLY liberal especially for Ohio. He used to be interviewed on KBN local talk before he got knocked out. He and Trafficant represented side by side districts and agreed on virtually nothing as I remember. Didn't he re-locate to run and isn't his district now the one that runs along the Ohio river valley all the way from Youngstown to south of Columbus and is 3 mis. wide or less?
DeWine is making this up for CYA.

Your estimate of Kasich is identical to mine. He isn't bad as far as fiscal policy is concerned, but he sucks on the 2nd amendment as bad as any RINO and most Democrats do.
Thank You, I will contact him and if he runs, we may be able to help him on a local level. My husband is a local elected official and he was part of a local volunteer group that worked on President Bush's campaign. I know I would work hard to help defeat DeWine
