Wake Up Wal-Mart ^

Because of Wal-Mart's inadequate wages and benefits, Wal-Mart employees are eligible for $2.5 billion in Federal assistance, which comes from your tax dollars.

Now we are "imperious" and it complains they are called names worse than Democrat?
Like I've posted...this is typical ex-Eastern European descendant Slavic peasant mentality. This is what gave us the unions.
Collectivism is a bitch to weed out of people who are inherently afraid of individualism. Just like the left wing Democrats today. Individualism, the pillar of our constitution, is frightening to them.
Thus they stay living in squalor because, as she put it, her clan needs her. Can't move, can't leave, can't find a better life because Aunt Jane is suffering with her worthless drug addicted kids or thugs or morons. Mom has the gout, can't move her!
Father-in-law abuses the step daughter...gotta hand around in the midwest where the unions and government over-regulation have forced out even the simplest manufacturing jobs that overpaid them when they could afford it. The local governments waste what little tax dollars they have left (ala what's going on in Tennessee today) and cut back on any services while most of them don't even take advantage of what is offered.
All of a sudden even an $8 an hour job is attacked as inadequate and ridiculed because it doesn't provide fully for the entire clan living in a three bedroom, run down house in the old neighborhood.
Then those of us that choose to leave, move on or get a life are attacked for doing so. How dare we better ourselves. How dare we earn more. Regardless of our beginnings we are like black Republicans...not fit any longer. Tax us. Take our money. Force us to be compassionate.
Negative, negative, negative...that's all they have to offer. Whine, complain, gripe to justify the fact they just can't deal with reality.
It's sickening.

Why don't we let the government take over Wal-Mart, then it could be run with the same effeciency and economy as our public schools, the post office, and VA hospitals.

I live in New York and have never lived without family or a roomate. Am I living below adequate living standards? You bet.
The answer is to move out of such a high cost city.
The biggest mistake people make about employment is that they aren't willing to move....to where a decent paying job is located in a lower cost of living area.

No, I expect you don't know anyone who could live on thatOn 15,000 a year? No, I don't know anyone that could survive on that for long, other than those living at home with their parents, or those on pensions, or own their home outright.
Apartments in my area go for $700. a month and up. That's just for rent! That leaves less than 500 bucks to live on. Now throw in car payments, utilities, gasoline, insurance, food, clothing, any medical, repairs, and anything else that pops up every month and wammo, you are living on the razors edge. Again, I have no idea how people make it on 300 a month. I would have to live out of a trailer, parked in Walmarts parking lot.

All of this could be solved if we eliminated those federal assistance program. Voila. Problem vanishes. Please elaborate. It is very interesting.
Let me try. If you are in a job that doesn't pay enough for you to survive, then the obvious solution is not to continue working there but to figure out how to make more money, either through more education, a change of location, or a job search. However, if you can increase you salary at government expense you are encouraged to not move since the ability to change jobs and earn as much as Walmart and the government gives you is very difficult. By staying at Walmart you encourage Walmart to pay lower wages since they have a willing labor pool who will work for minimum wage. Therefore, government assistance does a lot of damage to a community in the long run because they encourage companies to continue paying low wages. Companies like Walmart will raise their employees' salary when they find they can't hire enough people. Salaries are determined by one thing and one thing only: what does it cost to hire the right kind of people to do the job that needs doing. If you pay too little you will not get the number or quality of people you need. Apparently, Walmart believes the salary they are paying is giving them the quality of people they need. I would disagree with that and I don't shop at Walmart because I find their service lousy. But, Walmart is entitled to pay whatever they want, and the employees are free to walk off the job whenever they don't like it. It's basic Econ 101.

The thing that really, really pisses me off is that these whiners actually think they are in some kind of unique circumstance and everyone else has it made only based on where they are now, what they do, or how much they make. You can not imagine how this comment of yours hit me. I've been through the up and downs, as has my husband - but we've faced the obstacles and dealt with them. We're not unique, we're normal. I often joke on some of my regular daily threads about how I need a "real" job so I can spend money - but that is all it is, joking.
Knowing our 6yo has mommy waiting for the school bus, or mommy can come pick her up if school calls because she has a tummy ache is worth far more than any "real" job I could possibly have right now.
We all make decisions in our lives, some are good and some are not good, but we are the ones that must live with them - no one else.
You sometimes just have to shake your head. Or laugh. I can't decide.
I do both - it's the only way to keep sane in a sea of insanity :)

Why does this simple concept escape so many people - most especialy why does it escape those here at FR?????

the bible says about arrogant, stingy people who have much and give no thought to the poor and what they have will be taken from them and given to another. And one of the Ten Commandments is "Thou shalt not covet".
Fascinating that when God boiled down to ten the most important rules for living a good life, He chose to enlighten us that more misery comes from coveting what others have than from not having it.
If you are busy coveting and feeling sorry for yourself, you are also too busy to enjoy what you do have.
I agree that those who have should have compassion to help those who don't have. But a sense of entitlement is a trap for people when a sense of gratitude would serve them better.

Who is this assclown? WalMart probably generates $18 billion in sales tax alone. They paid $5.589 billion in income tax. If their 1.3 million employees make $17,000 each that's $22 billion in salary and $1.37 billion in Social Security taxes. They paid $2.2 billion in dividends last year. If every "hit" to the federal government was as profitable as WalMart, there'd be no deficit.

Sixteen dollars an hour is about right for a living wage today in our country unless you have something going on the side. LOL!!!!!
Man, you are absolutely clueless about economic reality.

Love the website. A sample:
Union members receive better non-health care benefits. For instance, 72% of union workers have guaranteed pensions with defined benefits, while only 15% of non-union workers enjoy such retirement security. (Bureau of Labor Statistics, Department of Labor, Employee Benefits in Private Industry, 2003, Table 1, 9/17/03).
Great unless your union runs the company into bankruptcy. Ask United Airlines employees how guaranteed their pensions are.
How about this for a headline?
UAL Unions cost taxpayers $6.6 billion!!!
Government to take over UAL pension plans
