I wouldn't call this deal a victory in either sense. I don't view it as a disaster like so many around here...
I agree with you in the sense that this thing needs to play out a little more before we know who the winners and losers are. I think, though, that we tend to look at these things in sports terms and, even if it's not "winner-take-all" it would have been nice to get four out of seven in the deal and have at least a symbolic victory. Two out of seven sounds like we got toasted.
McCain is like the Vichy French; how can we direct our full assault on the ultimate enemy when we have to worry about him stabbing us in the back constantly and collaborating with the enemy. I wonder if his fellow POWs felt the same way.

Rush will be on in 20 minutes. Any guess how he'll be coming down on the deal? I believe he'll slam McCain but still claim victory for the GOP as a whole. His eternal optimism will come through on this.

Two out of seven sounds like we got toasted. Good analogy, except it's three out of seven. And the other four games haven't been played yet. Unfortunately one or two "games" (confirmations) may well be lost because of McCain and friends, but in the end I think the GOP takes the best of seven.
