Gary Bauer Calls Senate Judicial Deal a 'Sell Out'

Former Presidential Candidate Gary Bauer issued the following statement late Monday as news of the "travesty" to justice deal on stalled judicial nominees was released.

The President of American Values said: "This is a sad day for our nation. The desire of millions of Americans to restore balance to our federal courts has been thwarted behind closed doors by 14 senators. Only three of President Bush's appointees are guaranteed an up or down vote under this sell out.

"Under this agreement it is now more likely that radical social change will continue to be forced on the American people by liberal courts committed to same sex marriage, abortion on demand and hostility to religious expression. The Republicans who lent their names to this travesty have undercut their President as well as millions of their most loyal voters. Shame on them all."

It is a "Sell Out"

Every two years the Republican Party begs for my money, my support and my vote. We have faithfully given each for decades but with this traitorous "deal" to end the filibuster they have "screwed the pooch". They will not get my money, my support OR my vote, until they act like men and vote and support the conservative values regarding illegal aliens, social security and the conservative judicial nominees, etc..., that my family and I believe in and the conservative promises on which they ran their campaigns.

Now that they have been reelected they have promptly forgotten the people and values that placed them into power. Well, I for one am no longer their pawn. Count me out, this country will get the kind of "leadership" it deserves; liberal, socialist/communist and corrupt. From now on, all I care about is my family and their well-being, the country can go to hell for all I care.

My family and I have been faithful supporters and active members of the Republican Party here in New Hampshire for years. The last Democrat I voted for was Jimmy carter in the 70’s. Due to the extreme cowardice and near treasonous disregard for the Constitution of the United States shown by the Republican members of the Senate of the United States, who decided to cave in to unreasonable demands from the Democrat side of the aisle, I will cease to provide contributions to the Republican National Committee. Until this party remembers who voted for it and behaves in a manner consistent with what its base believes in, you will not receive so much as one penny from me again.

That Judge in Massatuchets said that the courts were a pressure valve which we have all "tacitly agreed to" was better settled in the courts.

That's funny she should refer to the courts as the pressure valve at this moment. Personally, I believe that the courts are not the pressure valve, but rather the guy throwing logs into the fire to feed the boiler.

She's completely backward in her thinking. She herself is is adding fuel to the fire, and daring it to blow.

As I understand it the Dems on the compromise pledged not to vote for a filibuster on him but are not obligated to vote on cloture for him. I think that means he will go thru becasue the Reps will have enough votes.

Are you saying that the 55 GOP Senators could vote for cloture while only 38 Dims could vote against cloture on Meyers? If so, are right as 55/83 is 66% which I believe would bring cloture. Is cloture 60% of those voting or 60% of the Senate?

What if the Dims in question voted present? Does that up the number required for cloture?

The liberals are quite content with incremental victories; I don't think we should be so quick to discount them.

The trouble is, is that this is another of their incremental victories--the Dems that is.

Good question--If the Dems who signed the agreement do not filibuster him and they promised they wouldn't, will a cloture vote be required? I don't think so. I think the Reps just call for a vote and if the candidate gets a majority, he's confirmed.But I am not an expert on Senate rules. Cloture is needed only when there is a filibuster.
