Announce Filibuster Compromise
Once again, the GOP has proven that it DOES NOT know how to govern. This DEAL scuttles some of the President's nominees and it gives the Dems carte blanche whenever "extraordinary" circumstances warrant. It is a total defeat for the GOP.
The GOP deserves whatever bad fate befalls it. Frist won't get the monination as a result of accepting this betrayal--and he doesn't deserve it. The good news is that this also queers the deal for McCain. He will NEVER be forgiven by the GOP Primary electorate for his collaboration with the Socialists.
Defeat grabbed from the jaws of victory. Only the GOP is capable of such a feat.
Got a solicitation from the RNC. said I would make make my mind up about donating after the "nuclear" vote. Looks like it is made up for me.
They will then sell the same rug again to the rinos.
Don't let this disappointment worry you. Seriously.
We cannot always win, no matter how much we want to -- but we are doing better. 1996 was a far worse defeat: we ended up with President Clinton for four more years, and the damage that he did to this country in that period is far worse than us not getting to name our slate of judges.
Not to minimize this. It is a defeat; this show of contemptible weakness with such a strong majority is one that the rank-and-file are going to be very unhappy about. And it is a victory for the Democrats and obstructionism.
So let them celebrate. We still will get some judges through.
They may have agreed to vote on Owen, which moots the current cloture motion. And then we get on with the rest of the nominees.
And then we get other nominees out of committee and onto the floor.
ANd the issue hangs in the background, until some group of Senators decides to abuse parliamentary procedure to violate the Constitution.
I have absolutely no idea why everone in here is going nuts....we lost nothing and gained a up or down on three.
This "Republic" won't be "saved" until the likes of Sheets Byrd is GONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"Extraoridinary circumstances" = any damn time we dems want to
And I'm in such a good mood to watch that tonight......
OMG! Built on trust -- since when can a democrat be trusted?
This is one heck of a dirty deal and an exercise in fulitity because the democrats will "fillibuster" SCOTUS nominees and Frist will have to TRY to nuke it again.
The deal at least gets Owen and Brown to 3rd base. If either is nominated to the SCOTUS, then Democrats will have a hard time filibustering them, because they were already approved. The deal is not that bad. If Brown gets to the SCOTUS, it will be a MAJOR victory for Bush and vicariously, the GOP, IMO.
Of course -- McCain is eyeing the Oval Office and the others are wimps.
yep...
They've never had control to begin with.
Sho' ya right. Me too.
He's not alone, the republicans will burn for this. If they don't know what to do with a majority, then a minority they will become. I'm through with these twits.
Ditto.
No money - not a dime. And stay home election day. Let them all go down.
