For weeks we (Freepers, Bush, Frist) have been saying that the only acceptable outcome is an up or down vote on all nominees.

Now the RINO's throw Saad and Myers under the bus.

To paraphrase the Greek general Pyrrhus: Many more victories like this and we shall be ruined.

Name a strong leader. Inhofe? And how would he have controlled McCain?

Frist did his best. He had 48 votes.
The democrats stuck together.

Graham defied his state and it was payback time for SC primary 2000.

DeWine, Warner, and Graham might pay a price. The other three are home free.

McCain isn't up for reelection again until 2010.

If we can't count on Warner, Graham and Dewine now, then we couldn't count on them to invoke nuke option. So we're no worse off, and we sidestepped a terrible defeat which would have put the judicial nominee fiibuster up on a pedestal for the rest of the Bush Presidency. Which would you prefer?

My preference is that at least a few of these RINOs wanted to give the moderate Dems a way out of the mess.

We'll see...

The Republican Senators that signed it said the agreement would not allow for filibusters based on politics.

What they said is different from what they signed. Written words trump oral ones in Contract Law. They've set themselves up to be shredded one way or the other.

Spector would go either way, but he wouldn't have been the 50th vote for the nuclear option. He is willing to be the 49th or 51st, but not the 50th. He cares more about his legacy than anything else.

Face it...too many like it up the you-know-what and think victory is half a loaf.

To hear normally intelligent Freepers, espcially some that all last week were charging like bulls in a china shop as the debate raged, think we "won something" by being "allowed" by the Dems to take their view, their language and their rules is amazing.

But to actually believe Dems promises is beyond understanding. How often do people need to get lied to before they wake up??

It's obvious Lincoln was wrong...you can't fool some of the people some of the time - you can fool A LOT of the people ALL of the time.

Of course I do and it has nothing at all to do with being " smarter than everybody else". It has to do with knowing how Majority and Minority Leaders, in the past, controlled their respective groups. There's a reason we are supposed to study and learn from history.

Just how do you suppose that LBJ, for instance, controlled his guys? Threat, intimidation, taking away privileges/committee chairs, etc.

Now, just why is it that YOU haven't a clue? ;^)

Why would you trust anything the NY Slimes says.

The agreement hardly guarantees a filibuster on even the two named, let alone others.

Believe it when I see it happen.

I really believe filibustering will now be reserved for legislation. This fight is over and the Dims lost.

Let them put a happy face on it. The DU knows the score and it is GOP 1 DIM 0.

Else why is Reid agreeing to vote of those terrible judges?

although i'm sitting here seething (i've already emailed McLame and his cronies)...I must admit..I have mixed feelings cause it seems like we'll get Owen/Brown and possibly Pryor through. And, this is VERY good news. Even better news would be IF the President nominates one of these people for the SC, how could the Dims reject them if they just approved them?? (Rehnquist retires, Scalia moves up and one of these peo take Scalia's place....i can dream)
so, I'm angry at the RINOs but I'm angry at myself for being rational....lol.

You again are thinking too optimistic about the future by assuming they won't filibuster SCOTUS anyway.

They will. And now we've given them cover to just say "extraordinary circumstances" without even defining what that means.

And I'd rather have gotten NOTHING and taken my chances at the polls in '06 and '08 than make bad deals with liars, cheats and scumbags.

Too complicated for Arlen. How to know for sure that he doesn;t set up Cheney for the tie breaker?

HUNH?

Frist will stay.

McQueeg will act as though he's is not only the Majority Leader, but THE PRESIDENT, and the MSM will be praising him and the rest of the blithering RINOS as though they were George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and Jesus Christ all rolled up into one.

Speaking of Arlen. Specter has truly become an egghead in every sense of the word

And I'd rather have gotten NOTHING

And I wouldn't deal with them either because I am not a RINO. But the reality is that we have a bunch of these RINOS and they don't think like us. They are moderates-- they blow in the wind. It is reality that we don't have 51 super-solid Conservatives.

Frist didn't get to decide this fight on his own.

I'm afraid the Dems have pulled off the biggest coup in history. Let's take a look:

In that event, I think we'd nuke them still. If they break the Memorandum of Understanding, we do to. Plus if there is all this "unwritten" stuff too then they obviously discussed what happens if the Dems keep filibustering.

To jog your REALLY bad memory, I posted ALL of that. :-)

The way past leaders reigned in their troops and PRIOR to this debacle. You take away perks and privileges and committee chair posts and MONEY and everything else you can think of. You makes their lives a living hell and you promises them the world ( who cares if you don't deliver? ) down the road, for hanging in there. How else do you think it works? *sigh*
