Doesn't seem so clear to me.

Looks like a knee jerk reaction.

Why on earth would they think the Dems would name all the nominees that would be cleared? Guess they didn't notice that none were prevented from a vote by this agreement.

Haven't they learned by now the Dems love to claim victory in the Jaws of Defeat? This is a clear loss for the Dems.

Saw Bush does call over a couple of Dims and says Clarance Thomas is my pick for Chief Justice. So what. He will still nominate him. They can not filibuster without breaking this agreement.

This is a Clear Democratic Loss. Did we win 100% of course not but then again we do not have even 50 conservative Senators. Maybe in 06 or 08 but not now. This is as good as it could have gotten.

What most concerns me is the private side deals that were obviously made --(1) the through out some of the nominees; and (2) to agree that if the nuclear option presents itself, the RINOS, I am certain, agreed to not vote for a change in the Senate rules to require a simple majority vote. It is also very likely that the deal struck was so that if thre is a rule change, it is not to a mere majority, but to something like 55-45 requirement to confirm new Judges.

Null and void by whose standards? If the Dems break their promise (which they will, they always do) they know they'll have the same RINO's to give them cover and make yet another "deal".

'..Reid..message to Bush...abuse of power will not be tolerated...'

I emailed McCain and company asking if their intent was to send message to President?
So, they thought they could trust the Dims.....didn't take long for them to show their true colors. Told them....if I thought the Dems could be trusted I would have voted for them....but, now I'm finding some Republicans can't be trusted either.

amazing how YESTERDAY Reid thought Owen and Brown were too extremist to get an up or down vote but,well.....now, we have an "agreement" so.....guess they're not sooooo extreme!
Hypocrites!

You are exactly right.

A good leader with 55 seats could have won this standing on his head.

He should have even been able to get at least a half a dozen or so Democrats.

With all these base closings on the table all they had to do was tell the number of Senators both Democrats and Republicans they needed , if they wanted to get a base off the list they could vote my way.

If they wanted to get or keep a base on the list cross me. Instant lock vote. Piss poor leadership.

The time was ideal.I guess they saved the base closing club for Social Security, keeping the borders open, or some other money driven agenda.

This time I think they made that mistake once too often.

The American people wanted these black-robed, one man, unelected legislative branches reigned in.

Nope.....three out of ten is NOT a "win"; no matter HOW you want to spin it. And the MSM is going to make this look like THE biggest loss to have EVER befallen a political party, in the history of America.

They wouldn't just have merit, they would be undeniably true. Any rino who votes to change the rules is damnable liar whose word ain't worth crap. Thats the fact of the matter. The language is clear. That language would be on the front page of every major newspaper every day for a year and 90% of Americans would consider the senators who broke their word to be liars and untrustworthy.

And they'd be right!

Doesn't have to say so.

Each can determine. If they do so the agreement as a whole is broken. Part B is null and void.

Besides it was also stated that the three judges were not to be filibustered. All three were filibusters on strictly political grounds to do so again would clearly break the agreement.

Were this not so the agreement would not be worth the paper it was written on. The Republican Senators that signed it said the agreement would not allow for filibusters based on politics.

he seven RINO's haven't been double teamed by Frist and Bush? Tell me how you know this?

The President did not say anything about the filibuster at Calvin, just talked a normal rah rah graduation speech that anyone else could have given. He should have shouted out from that stage that to stop our representatives from voting is the absolute worst thing for a Democratic Republic. There are a million things he could have said against the Filibuster, he said nothing.

The buck stops with W on this.

It's the power of seven RINO's in a 55 person R delegation. It's been like this for years. Even the "great" *cough* Trent Lott couldn't handle it.

BTW, the seven or more RINO's could do the same damage in the up-or-down vote.

I wouldn't go so far as to pin the label of traitor on "many" Republicans. 7 RINO's does not constitute "many Republicans" IMHO.

There is absolutely no shred of evidence Frist endorsed this compromise, or any shred of evidence the White House applauded the efforts of a few gutless RINO's. Your misspent ammo attacking Frist and the White House are without merit.

I'm going to get off line soon and watch a movie my husband taped for me. It's bad enough that McQueeg pulled this off, but the fact that so few FREEPERS have the ability to understand what just happened, is just mind blowing and disgusting beyond words.

Not since the agreement clearly gives them that right. They can decide each of them if it is a misuse of the Filibuster.

Once they decide they are cleared to go Nuclear if a filibuster occurs.

Not it is not 3 out of ten.

Let us count the Donkeys agreed on Prior, Owens, Brown, Mkeague, Griffin, and we have two nominees that President Bush already appointed during recess.

This make a total of seven so far. Miguel Estrada withdrew his nomination last year.

So we ar left with only two, Saad and Meyers, we will say how these two will play out.

I agree that Graham and DeWine can't be legally held to this agreement and they might agree to go nuclear if the filibuster is abused.

They won't be able to hide their position behind platitudes or some "make peace" agreement quite as easily the next time around.

I'm not sure the Constitutional option has a chance in this Senate's makeup. But the fact that these 14 put up a public show is going to bring some heat on them. They may feel different the next time the issue is presented, which might be as soon as a month from now, and is darn near certain to be in the next 18 months. And if these Senators can't abide by the Constitution, it might affect them in an election campaign.

I see the situation as about as uncertain now as it was 10 hours ago - except now we have new knowledge, some unexpected names.
