It is also about the judicial issue and the reluctance for the GOP to see that many of us who voted for the GOP are eager to see the course of activist judicial activities reversed. How can it work for the GOP if they take a stand. Well, your premise of the GOP hanging onto all of the GOP votes presumes that the GOP is responsive to the base. In the past two elections that has not been an issue because the GOP voters would have voted for anybody with an R after his name as we did for GWB but think that might change. I and many conservatives think the GOP is playing us for fools by making nice with the left and left wing issues such as amnesty and money for African AIDS and the like, assuming many conservatives will still vote GOP next time. I think they are whistling past the grave.

To answer your question directly, I think the policy that enforces the law would not redirect away Democrat voters. That is all I and many ask.

My point is that the issue only cuts one way: against the Republicans. So whenever I see a "conservative" draw a line in the sand over immigration, I'm suspicious. 'Nuff said.
