Fighting talk as Galloway meets Senate accusers
By Francis Harris in Washington
(Filed: 17/05/2005)
George Galloway MP arrived in Washington last night, promising to turn the tables on his accusers in the US Senate today when he meets them face to face to reject allegations that he profited from the sale of Iraqi oil under Saddam Hussein's regime.
George Galloway arrives in Washington yesterday
The powerful Senate permanent sub-committee on investigations plans to question the MP on his alleged dealings with the regime during more than a decade of campaigning for the lifting of United Nations sanctions.
Arriving in Washington, Mr Galloway said: ''If I were you, I'd get a ringside seat.'' Mr Galloway, who has complained that he was not granted the opportunity to appear before the committee prior to the report's publication, said that ''even under the Taliban you got an appearance in court''.
He rejected its findings that he was granted oil allocations allowing him profits from the sale of oil under the United Nations oil-for-food programme, and branded the committee as a tool of the US government.
The committee cited interviews with senior regime officials and documents from the state marketing organisation and the oil ministry to support its allegations. The UN scheme raked off money originally destined to buy food and medicines.
I know we're all praising Blair because of his support of the war, but this should be a reminder that most Brits's hearts are with the French when it comes to the US. No, not all, but most.
"this scumbag called for the insurgents to attack British & American troops"
Why was he not arrested?
Galloway is all mouth and no brain. The perfect DU hero.
"Even under the Taliban you get an appearance in court." If this guy had any sense, instead of just a big mouth, he would know that Taliban justice was junk. And there were Afghanis executed without a "court appearance".
Yes, the Senate and its various committees are a tool (rather a dull one) of the people of the various states, who govern this country through their elected representatives.
A broken clock is right twice a day, and all that.
THIS is the million dollar question.
The British people were outraged (which doesnt happen that often), they called for action. The Sun newspaper (the only British newspaper worth reading in my opinion) took up this cause. They put dozens of reporters on the story, dug up a LOT of skeltons in [his] closet, including the fact that his multi-million dollar house, was bought & paid for with a 'donation' of $15 million from SADDAM himself.
It raged for months and eventually Labor (UK Dems) fired him, Scotland Yard began investigating and that was the last I heard of it.
Now this idiot has started his own party, only in Britain.
I hope Norm is all warmed up for this scum bucket
Nah it could happen in Canada where we have a national party that is dedicated to destroying Canada, the Bloc Quebecois, and they get taxpayer money to do it with.....
I could say the same about PBS and NPR.
I pray that Coleman absolutely DESTROYS this piece of filth.
The DUmmy, they are the US government.
If by his own free will, then why?
If not, then does the jurisdiction of the US Senate reach across the Atlantic to the UK Parliament?
Don't get me wrong - I believe Galloway is a liar, a crook, a communist, and a traitor. I'm just curious as to the extent of US jurisdiction.
popdonnelly: "If this guy had any sense, instead of just a big mouth, he would know that Taliban justice was junk."

The Senate sub-committee concluded Mr. Galloway was involved in oil-for-food corruption, ie. was on the take. They made their belief public and invited Mr. Galloway to appear before them if he chose to dispute their findings.
Nobody was compelled to do anything here.
OK. Thanks for the info!
