There is a mistake right there---you don't negotiate with demons.
But no placatory offering or witch doctor can deflect Popo Bawa when he has made his mind up to strike, islanders say.
Actually, there is something to deflect this. I believe anyone who has the Holy Spirit can never be possessed or attacked in this way. Christians can come under attack from evil, but not directly as in the case of these poor people.
I remember a story in college before I became a Christian. There was a girl from Haitii who was putting a curse on another girl who lived upstairs. She had a bunch of stuff on the floor--a circle and all kinds of things--candles, water, bones, etc. In the middle of the circle was the girls name. Later, this same Haitian girl said she was going to put another curse on her roommate, who was a devout Christian. The Haitian girl got very upset because she said the curse would "not work, and it is upsetting the spirits very much why I try it."
I know this sounds crazy to many of you--but it is true. I do believe real evil exists out there.
Sure it does. But I don't need to believe in sex-mad demons to know that real evil exists.
I can tell you right now, from my own personal experience as well as that of many others, that those with the Holy Spirit can indeed be demonized ("possessed" in the Exorcist sense is very, very rare, and I agree, does not happen to those truly in the Spirit) and attacked in a physical fashion. By trusting Jesus Christ and invoking His Name and His authority, we can break any such attack; however, the fact that we can end an attack in Jesus' Name does not mean that we are automatically protected from it beginning in the first place.

I am with you on that. There are powers and principalities which few people comprehend even slightly.
