Last Friday, a top Pentagon spokesman told us that a review of the probe cited in our story showed that it was never meant to look into charges of Qur'an desecration. The spokesman also said the Pentagon had investigated other desecration charges by detainees and found them "not credible." Our original source later said he couldn't be certain about reading of the alleged Qur'an incident in the report we cited, and said it might have been in other investigative documents or drafts. Top administration officials have promised to continue looking into the charges, and so will we. But we regret that we got any part of our story wrong, and extend our sympathies to victims of the violence and to the U.S. soldiers caught in its midst.

I didn't catch his name, but some high Newsweak honcho appeared "live" late last night on the Geraldo show for a brief statement on behalf of his rag.

He was an incredible little wussy, spoke in a most weak, tentative and unconvincing tone. He had the frozen, scared expression of a weasel caught in the headlights.

As Colonel Hunt put it a few minutes later "it was a half-assed apology"....and it was.

Congrats to Rivera for getting the exclusive on this guy's televised statement. Fox viewers were able to get a rare look at a behind-the-scenes media perp.

We tend to think of media titans as strong, powerful, well-spoken individuals. Listening to this honcho is proof that some of them are weak, cowardly and lying bastados. They obviously hate the country that makes them wealthy......and they hate the military that protects them.

This guy made me want to hurl....and I'm not alone. I never saw Colonel Hunt so angry and glowering as he was last night right after he heard the Newsweakling's weaseling statement.

Editors@newsweek.com:

Dear Newsweek Editors,

So Newsweek ran with an unverified story from a single source, got 16 people killed and over 100 injured with massive PR damage to the USA?

How are you going to compensate the victims and their families? Newsweek lied and people died!

Even Dan Rather didn't go that far to make Bush look bad.

The biggest impact any of us will have to is boycott Newsweek, both their advertisers, and the subscription department.

The families of the people who died have a pretty good wrongful death suit against Newsweek. Hope the sue them into bankruptcy. It's nothing more than a stupid tabloid.

Newsweek has shown its complete lack of seriousness on this issue.... Not only by publishing a FALSE REPORT... causing deaths... but frankly even if it were true, publishing it at a time of war in the first place.

Thanks Newsweek, now more of our citizens and soldiers will die thanks to your stupidity and political hatred of the current administration. Ever dead soldier and citizen that is killed in the Muslim world from this point on... puts blood on your hands!

Cowards and Traitors!

Isn't Newsweek guilty of blasphemy? That's a pretty serious crime in some quarters.

This story just makes me sick. WHAT is going on with these Libs? Are they ALL mentally ill???

I imagine DU is celebrating.

I am glad this is getting some attention, although not nearly to the degree it deserves.

Wish the SeeBS Ken Starr deception would get a brighter spotlight, too. I've seen no mention of it on Fox, Drudge, anywhere.

They sound just like harry reid and the liberals. i wouldn't apologize to a single one of those illiterate barbarians over in the desert. their religious leaders must have taken classes on media manipulation and propaganda from rev. jackson and the libs in congress. if this country didn't have mercy we and russia woulda blasted everyone and split the world up by now.

WPO, who owns Newsweak, has plummeted 12% (and it's only 11:00 am here in the east) to $813 (??? WHO buys this stuff???).

The rats are jumping from this shipwreck as fast as they can.

The more I hear this half baked Newsweek apology, without story retraction, the more I think they should be charged for support of terrorism. They knew what the reaction would be and they went with this fake story anyway.

Left Wing media hate for America, our military and our President has gone WAAAAAY over the line. It's getting to the point that ALL media reports have some false information in their stories all designed to make America and Conservatives and republicans and W look bad.

Can't believe what I just heard on TV. Not sure which channel as I was surfing.

NewsLeak is going to say that since the Washington Post and NY Times printed similar stories last year, they believed the story was true.

Well then, those two paragons of truth said it, so it must be true?

NEWSWEEK LIED, PEOPLE DIED

May a herd of ambulance chasers track down relatives of the 15 dead and sue Newsweek out of existence.
