PUNISHING IRAQIS
Ny Post ^ | 5-13-05 | Ralph Peters

By RALPH PETERS May 13, 2005 -- IT'S been an ugly week in Iraq. On Wednesday alone, nearly 80 Iraqi civilians were killed by suicide bombers. Their crimes? The desire for peace and freedom. Or simply looking for work. Terrorism revealed its soul: merciless, vindictive and in love with death itself. There's no strategic plan behind the slaughter of Iraqi workers in a marketplace in Tikrit or the butchering of other Sunni Arabs in Hawija. Suicide bombings in a Baghdad bazaar don't have cunning goals. The terror attacks are no longer about changing Iraq. They're about punishment. Embittered and on the run, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi realizes that the tide has turned decisively against him. He and his international gang of terrorists couldn't dislodge the United States military or the Coalition, but only chipped at its edges. Their violence couldn't stop Iraq's elections.

The Coalition has to do a better job in the PR department! We have got to make every Iraqi understand that the terrorists are targeting them because they are soft targets. Their intent is to get the average Iraqi to turn on the coalition. We are not leaving until they are able to handle ther own security.

Iraqis aren't stupid. They know who is trying to kill them and who isn't.

The terrorists in Iraq should be identified for what they are - street thugs. They have no hope of gaining military or political advantage, only of extorting a sullen allegiance of a part of the populace of Iraq.

It's All America's Fault

Al Beril, Liberal Times - Greenwich Village

Car bombings, kidnappings, beheadings, and other mayhem in Iraq. It’s all America’s fault! If the US hadn’t pressed Saddam as a ruse for this oil war – if it had only waited ad infinitum for the UN, then none of this would have ever happened! But this is America! America will have it’s way in the world or else.

I suppose it is a testimony to America’s troubled birth and youth. America is the great world power now, and feels the need to flex muscles that at one time it did not have. Perhaps the US is so belligerent now because of Britain’s harsh treatment that thrust her into existence. If only King George and his administration had been more considerate and cared about social reform instead of tax plans for the wealthy!

Britain itself, with it’s quiet desperation and it’s lust for empire no doubt has left it’s imprint on the DNA of America, who is now infusing that same blueprint into the fledgling Iraqi government.

If only the Roman Empire, which had built up London and ancient England only to abandon it had a proper exit strategy, Britain would not have sunk into such a long period of extreme poverty and wars. Then, just like America now, once it tasted power, England would be compelled to go on the hunt until it dominated the world!

You see, the Greeks did not properly groom Rome for collapse when it was in power. Instead, it foisted upon the Romans it’s own idea of what democracy ought to be. But the Greeks only did to the Romans what Medes and the Persians did to them! They were too busy forcing their own culture and language across their empire to even consider that the Greeks may have their own culture to preserve. But the Persians were only retaking what was usurped from them by the Assyrians, who, as we know, made camp in the very cradle of civilization.

So, when it all comes down to it, it really started with the …Iraqis!

This just goes to show how far-reaching George Bush’s ability is to screw things up.
