Reid cites FBI file on judicial pick [Big no-no]
WASH TIMES ^ | 5-13-05 | Charles Hurt

Minority Leader Harry Reid strayed from his prepared remarks on the Senate floor yesterday and promised to continue opposing one of President Bush's judicial nominees based on "a problem" he said is in the nominee's "confidential report from the FBI."

Those highly confidential reports are filed on all judicial nominees, and severe sanctions apply to anyone who discloses their contents. Less clear is whether a senator could face sanctions for characterizing the content of such files.

"Henry Saad would have been filibustered anyway," Mr. Reid said on the floor yesterday, about the Michigan Appeals Court judge who is nominated to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit.

"All you need to do is have a member go upstairs and look at his confidential report from the FBI, and I think we would all agree that there is a problem there," Mr. Reid continued.

Republican staff members and supporters of Mr. Bush's nominees were outraged.

"Can you think of a better way to trash someone's reputation?" Sean Rushton of the conservative Committee for Justice asked after seeing a transcript of the remarks. "Say that there is bad stuff from an FBI investigation in a file somewhere and leave that hanging. This is character assassination of the lowest order and completely improper."

SEnator Allen on Tony Snow's show said that he will be having a press conference at 10am today w/3 legal experts to explore whether Reid's action is illegal. He also said that if it is, then he will file an ethics charge against Reid w/the ethics committee.

It's no big deal. Hillary has everyone's FBI file on her hard drive anyway. I wonder if Saad's file contains something really horrific like rape, attempted rape, cocaine use with minors, selling federal offices and perks, selling secrets to our enemies or giving info to our cold war adversaries. That would really be something.

If Harry Reid is not allowed to have access to the FBI file, how did he know what was in it? Either someone showed it to him or told him or he had unauthorized access to it. This needs an investigation.

Searchlight Harry is going to have a SPOTlight on him now and about time he gets "the treatment" he's so fond of directing at others.

The way to do this is to embarrass the media. They were falling all over themselves indignant that some anonymous source would mention Valerie Plame (and not by name). Why are you not outraged, Tim Russert? And, as Raymond Donovan once said, "Where do I go to get my good name back"?

"True. Many Republicans wanted him to stay on until 2012, but he wants to go back into practicing medicine."

I don't believe that for a nanosecond. He's preparing to run for POTUS.

Is this FBI file by chance one of the 900 that Hillary had access to (and copied for future references)?

"Reid has got to be one of the stupidest politicians we've ever had. It's one stupid statement after another, each one more stupid than the last." You are SO RIGHT!! If he is the best the RATs could pick for senate leader, that doesn't say much for the rest. What a marroon!!

You are kidding right????? Don't be so naive.

The dingy & dusty harry is a FREAKING GENIUS!!!

He can say absolutely anything and everything he can think of that slanders, demeans, accuses, defames, mis-represents and assassinates someone's character and walk away with a smile on his face knowing there will be NO REPRECUSSIONS for his actions.

He should be removed from his position of "leadership" and removed from the United States Senate. He is the slime beneath the pond scum!!!

WHAT??? Harry Reid had a sexual relationship with a man who was a convicted spy for China???? And he had 7 visits to rehab centers for alcoholism?????

Don't tell anybody, but I heard Harry Reid once smoked a cigarette when he was younger!!

Since he's a democrat he'd get a pass on homosexual encounters, treason, rape, pedophilia or alcohol/drug use. BUT if he once used tobacco...weeelllll he's got some 'splainin' to do!

Jesse might. And in answer to your question, apparently there are no Republicans with a backbone. I cannot believe the way they're letting the Democrats run over them.

Those highly confidential reports are filed on all judicial nominees, and severe sanctions apply to anyone who discloses their contents.

What is the maximum sanction they can be applied to Traitor Reid ?
