Well, just a few weeks back, my neighbors dog came after my wife's Persian cat. Cat was on a harness/leash (I control my pets so they do not trespass or kill wildlife) sitting in the flowerbed my wife and I were gardening in at the time. Dog came at a dead run for the cat, who did a pretty good job evading, considering he (the cat) was on a leash.
I literally had to chase the dog/cat furball around until I got a hold of the dog. I proceeded to bounce the dog's skull off the driveway a few times, while being bitten. I had gardening gloves on, so I was lucky.
The cat in question was the gift I gave to my wife for our engagement (happily married for 12 years now). I was an impoverished graduate student back then and could not afford any diamond ring, so the cat (which she adores) was the very best I could give her.
To say the pet has sentimental value would be an understatement. I warned my neighbor that a repeat event like that would cost him more than he could afford. Yes, I know that cats kill birds and dogs kill cats. Well, where I come from, people shoot and kill dogs who come on their property. Since the folks where I currently live frown on that, I'll guess I'll have to rely on a lawyer.

the dog came on your property? It must be yours. Take it for a nice long ride out to the country (or better yet the middle of the big city) a hundred miles or so away and drop it off at the animal shelter. (or off a bridge, I'm easy) Problem solved

HA, you bounced the dog on its head a few times?? Good for you. Is the dog owner suing you??

Any dog or two legged vermin that harmed our cat would not make it home alive.

Pellet guns are legal to discharge, make no noise, and are very effective. My neighbors cat went INTO my Mercedes and took a sh*t on the console (I had left the window open because it was a hot August day). I found my "gift" later that afternoon.
Let's just say that a pellet gun pumped 40 times will discharge with enough force to kill a cat, without admitting that I have such a gun or did harm to my neighbor's cat.
