Spielberg Weeps at Star Wars Screening

Director STEVEN SPIELBERG wept at a premiere of pal GEORGE LUCAS' final STAR WARS movie EPISODE III: REVENGE OF THE SITH.

JURASSIC PARK film-maker, Spielberg was so moved by the eagerly-awaited conclusion of the sci-fi saga, he burst into tears at its screening last week.

But he's unashamed by his tears, insisting fans will also cry at the end of the film, because its moving conclusion marks the end of Lucas' epic story.

Spielberg says, "I saw it about a week ago, and it's absolutely amazing.

"It's the best of the last three episodes. It's the best way you could possibly imagine for George to finish it off, it has a tremendous ending and it's very dark. You'll cry at the end, it's wonderful."

The rumor surrounding the character of Jar Jar is that character is a self portrayal of GL himself.

pathetic Haiden Christianson

Not as pathetic as your spelling. Seriously...Hayden is a fine actor...see "Shattered Glass" for an example. What is pathetic is George Lucas' ham-fisted dialogue. Not his actors' fault. Ian McGregor is SO clearly bored in the first 2 films by the insipid dialogue. WHY oh WHY didn't Lucas hire Empire/Jedi writer Lawrence Kasdan???

95% of the time this PR B.S. doesn't even come from the person being written about. It's made up fluff by PR publicist (hacks). That's why they get paid so much, ahem...the PR hacks. PR hacks are like sucker fish that ride big whales.

Jar Jar says, Just say no to meth kids or else you'll end up looking and talking like me.

If Jar Jar is indeed the altar-ego of GL, that explains Lucas' refusal to recognize the fans' indignation at having the character imposed upon their sensibilities in Eps 1 and 2.

Agreed. Jar Jar was stupid and GL should of came to that realization but unfortunately GL couldn't.

I've always believed the ultimate redemption for the Skywalker lineage will be the Solo children. I believe the 7th film will complete Luke's ultimate seduction to the Dark Side, although he will have spent time training the Solo children in the ways of the Force.

Except for the fact that GL has always said the the story of SW is about the fall and redemption of Anakin Skywalker. It would have been difficult for the Solo children to have affected it in the storyline.

Well, Lucas also says there will be no such movies and never intended to make them, so I guess not.

Lol, we're talking about the same man who foisted the Ewoks on us and turned ROTJ into a kiddie show. The same man who couldn't stomach a wrong-side-of-the-asteroid-belt hero who doesn't play nice with the bad guys and shoots first if his life is threatened. Jar Jar doesn't exactly surprise me.

That's why I'm not exactly raring to go see this. I've lost faith in GL. The PC minions must have killed the real GL and replaced him with a doppleganger.

The following is from Time Magazine, May, 1983, the article "I've got to get my Life Back!" The title refers to George Lucas' desire to put Star Wars aside for awhile.

"The films that record what went on in the beginning-if they are ever made- will be altogether different in look and tone from the existing trilogy, says Lucas. They will be more melodramatic, showing the political intrigue and machiavellian plotting that led to the downfall of the once noble Republic. They will have only enough outward action to keep the plot moving. Obi-Wan Kenobi, the elderly Jedi played by Alec Guiness in the Star Wars series, and Darth Vader will be seen as younger men, while Luke Skywalker will make a brief appearance as a baby in Episode III.

The sequels, the 3 movies that would follow Jedi are considerably vaguer. Their main theme will be the necessity for moral choices and the wisdom needed to distinguish right from wrong. There was never any doubt in the films already made: in those the lines were sharply drawn, comic book style. Luke, who will then be the age of Obi-Wan Kenobi is now, some place in his 60s, will reappear, and so will his friends, assuming the creator decides to carry the epic further. Hamill and the others will get first crack at the roles- if they look old enough."

"It wasn't long after I began writing Star Wars that I realized the story was more than a single film could hold. As the saga of the Skywalkers and Jedi Knights unfolded, I began to see it as a tale that could take at least nine films to tell-three trilogies-and I realized, in making my way through the back story and after story, that I was really setting out to make the middle story."

Why would the story have to involve a turn to the darkside at all? Maybe that's why GL stopped with Ep. VI.

Play KOTOR ("Knights of the Old Republic"). KOTOR is the 2nd best Star Wars story, after Empire Strikes Back. Crazy plot twists, great diolouge, great story. All in a videogame.
