PRESIDENTIAL NEWS OF THE DAY: The President and First Lady arrived in the Netherlands, today, on the first leg of their four-day visit to eastern Europe, Russia and the Republic of Georgia. The main focus of the visit is to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Nazi Germany's defeat.
According to the Associated Press, President Bush "second-guessed Franklin D. Roosevelt," when he said Saturday that the United States played a role in Europe's painful division after World War II. The President said it was a decision that helped cause "one of the greatest wrongs of history" when the Soviet Union imposed its harsh rule across Central and Eastern Europe.
President Bush said the lessons of the past will not be forgotten as the United States tries to spread freedom in the Middle East.
The President spent the day with the leaders of three Baltic republics, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. Many in the Baltic countries are still bitter about the Soviet annexation of their countries and the harsh occupation that followed the war for nearly 50 years. Acknowledging that anger and frustration still linger, Bush said that "we have a great opportunity to move beyond the past." His message here, and throughout his trip, is that the world is entering a new phase of freedom and all countries should get on board.
QUOTE OF THE DAY: "We will not repeat the mistakes of other generations, appeasing or excusing tyranny, and sacrificing freedom in the vain pursuit of stability," the president said. "We have learned our lesson; no one's liberty is expendable. In the long run, our security and true stability depend on the freedom of others." President George W. Bush in a speech in Riga, Latvia.
Hello Snugs! It is good to see you. How are you and how is your dad?
I am glad that he is a candidate from the Raving Loony Party--he looks as though he fits the bill! :)
Do you think Mrs. Blair is not very attractive?! :)
What a cutie Leo is!!
(btw, that is my dog's name too, lol)
Heck with the toaster, I want to know what type of bread that is.....never seen anything like it. Bet it's goody, good, good!
And yes that toaster is darling. British I assume.
***I'm so proud of our President***
I am too, Mike. We finally have a president with COURAGE.
I don't think I've ever seen that expression before---do you happen to know the story behind it like where it was taken or the occasion?
Here is a photo of Tony Blair after the returning officer had declared his election result returning him to Westminster as MP for Sedgley, here there are a couple of characters who put up against him one I would think from the Monster Raving Looney Party
"In my heart, I still cannot believe that we have a President so bold, so courageous, so truthful and so wonderously 'direct speak' oriented, a President who understands in his HEART that freedom is etched upon the hearts of mankind, not just those lucky enough like you or I to have been born into a free society.
He just gets it.
And I just love him for it and I always will."
. . . BEAUTIFULLY AND PASSIONATELY STATED . . . I COULDN'T AGREE MORE!!!
The President's words today echo those he shared in his 2005 Inaugural Address:
. . . "We go forward with complete confidence in the eventual triumph of freedom. Not because history runs on the wheels of inevitability; it is human choices that move events. Not because we consider ourselves a chosen nation; God moves and chooses as He wills. We have confidence because freedom is the permanent hope of mankind, the hunger in dark places, the longing of the soul. When our Founders declared a new order of the ages; when soldiers died in wave upon wave for a union based on liberty; when citizens marched in peaceful outrage under the banner "Freedom Now" - they were acting on an ancient hope that is meant to be fulfilled. History has an ebb and flow of justice, but history also has a visible direction, set by liberty and the Author of Liberty.
When the Declaration of Independence was first read in public and the Liberty Bell was sounded in celebration, a witness said, "It rang as if it meant something." In our time it means something still. America, in this young century, proclaims liberty throughout all the world, and to all the inhabitants thereof. Renewed in our strength - tested, but not weary - we are ready for the greatest achievements in the history of freedom.
May God bless you, and may He watch over the United States of America."
This is from a recent thread.
About the loony run a way gal. Issues to say the least.

Her travels may be over, but Wilbanks' troubles may have just begun. Gwinnett County District Attorney Danny Porter said he was examining evidence for a possible charge of making false statements to a government agency.
Sartain believes that's not necessary.
"She is deeply regretful of the pain she caused her family, her fiancé, her friends and the community who rallied to her aid," the lawyer said Wednesday. "I believe Jennifer committed no crime."
Arrests for shoplifting
Sartain, a former Hall County district attorney, knows her client. Court records show that Wilbanks was arrested three times in that county on shoplifting charges from 1996 to 1998.
In 1996, as district attorney, Sartain prosecuted Wilbanks for allegedly shoplifting $1,740 in merchandise from a Gainesville mall, court records show. Sartain dropped the felony charge after Wilbanks, then 24, completed a pretrial diversion program, the records show. Wilbanks performed 75 hours of community service and paid restitution, according to court records.
Months before that felony arrest, police had charged Wilbanks with misdemeanor shoplifting for allegedly taking $37.05 in merchandise from a Gainesville Wal-Mart. Court records show that officials dismissed the case after Wilbanks completed "Project Turnabout," a six-week counseling program for shoplifters.
She was arrested again, city court records show, in April 1998, when Wilbanks, then 25, was charged with shoplifting $98 worth of merchandise from a store. She pleaded guilty and served two weekends in jail. A judge also sentenced her to probation, a $400 fine and 50 hours of community service.
