MIAMI - The family of a severely brain-damaged woman who died after her feeding tube was removed in March said Friday they still have not been told where her remains will be laid to rest.
Terri Schiavo's parents and siblings, who waged a lengthy court battle over her end-of-life wishes, said on Fox's "Hannity & Colmes" show that her husband is keeping her remains from them.
"They were supposed to tell us, and we still have not heard from ... Michael Schiavo where Terri's been laid," said Terri Schiavo's brother, Bobby Schindler. "Our family expected this. Michael has disobeyed court orders throughout the ordeal and continues to do so today."
Michael Schiavo is under court order to notify the Schindlers of his plans for a memorial service. He has had his wife cremated and has said her ashes would be buried at a family plot in Pennsylvania.
George Felos, Michael Schiavo's attorney, did not immediately return a call Friday night seeking comment.
Terri Schiavo, 41, died March 31 in a Pinellas Park hospice, 13 days after her feeding tube was removed by court order. She suffered brain damage in 1990 after a chemical imbalance caused her heart to stop.
She left no written instructions in the event she became disabled, and her husband said she never would have wanted to be kept alive in what court-appointed doctors called a persistent vegetative state with no hope of recovery.
The Schindlers, however, doubted she had any such end-of-life wishes. They maintained she would benefit from rehabilitation, despite most doctors saying her condition was irreversible
That's ok. Everyone has right to their opinion. PS - I left out Tom DeLay. :)
Only one chose the equivalent of your Option B, and even then she chose not to have it apply if she was expected to die within six months.
Well, Bless your heart. I'll clarify my original statement for you. I never said that I hadn't heard these accusations before. I only implied that I had only heard them from the Michael S. camp. Assertions and accusations......hmmmmm, I think that's your department. Please repost any that I have made on the subject so I can clear it up for you.
In Terri's case she could have been cared for at home. That's what the Schneider's begged for. Just a bunch ignorant pro life Catholics I suppose. A family of idiots for wanting to keep Terri on this planet.
Will be taking that living will option (for feeding tube) soon when I write mine. Stop being so amazed. You are so parochial. This is how the other half lives.
What would you like them to let go of? The "courts" show more respect for your pet hamster.
They all appear to be more articulate than you are. Is that why you don't like them?
I ask again, what purpose was served by creating antagonism and division among otherwise likeminded fellow Conservatives? When all the sound and fury on FR for all those ugly days achieved nothing but to alienate one from another?? Did Terri live one more moment because of all the grunting and groaning and name-calling? No.
"Well, unlike you, I don't speak for God Almighty or claim to know what He would do or DEMAND And how do we know that what happened wasn't His will? We don't."
I'm pretty sure my God does not countenace murder of innocent people.
Great question. (FWIW, love your tagline.;)
Here's a question for you. Do you still actually believe what Michael Schiavo said in court and other places? Do you still believe Schiavo now that the dust has settled? And don't beg off by telling me a court believed him.
Do you still believe Mikey Schiavo? Because this case is built on his lies. Unless you believe Mikey you should leave the Terri Schindler case alone from now on.
I would like my LOVING family to decide to continue to FEED me until GOD calls me home.(not asking for heroic measures here)
PS.... and if my husband shacks up with another during my condition, all guardianship of me will be deemed null and void.
So, again, you are telling us to "shut up about Terri". Do I remember all the threads about "gun rights", the Patriot Act, the religious threads, the Oklahoma tragedy, Elian?
One thing FR posters need to realize. We are not a small thought coordinated group. We are diverse as the conservative movement grows. Efforts to make us march in step do not help the fight against liberals.
We will have those conservatives on this side because of their religious beliefs, or their belief on abortion, taxes, the war, homeland security, social security, the anti-socialism proponents, the "small" government believers.
What has been scary is the discovery that there are many here that see nothing wrong with killing off American citizens based on their opinion as to the quality of that person's life. In fact, they are in favor of it because of the use of "resources".
Hard to find anything in common with those that are willing to kill for convenience, expediency, or "resources".
"Did Terri live one more moment because of all the grunting and groaning and name-calling? No."
No, because conservatives from Jeb (and GW) Bush on down to the patriot movement, and on down further to us freepers did nothing except groan and call-names. A fine bunch of paper-tigers we look like. :-(
Me too. I am hearing so much obvious disinformation on this. I would love to hear an objective account.
You think there are no medical costs incurred when you are being cared for at home?????
Excuse me but I think that's the same argument we used to have for abused children, battered spouses, cruelty to animals. If you're a member of the party of Eugenics, excuse me the Democrats, you're right starving a woman to death by starvation and dehydration is just a "privacy thing." Right up there with Partial-Birth Abortion. Hope you get yours.
I think they provided a service. They showed me some things I did not know. I learned a lot from the coverage and debate.
